    Not really.

They risk getting max value for Howard right now. If they feel what we have offered isn't enough, if they feel the Max value is not worth it to deal him then they could just get something back in return when he's a FA via S&T (It won't be much) but they will still be rebuilding.

If we are willing to call his bluff why won't they? If what we've offered isn't enough then maybe it is worth it to them to take a chance on calling his bluff. Remember there was a time Kobe would rather play on the moon than in L.A so anything could happen.

    Fair point and I agree.

But, sooner or later, Hennigan has to realize he's running out of options.

Maybe he's of the belief that Dwight will not walk away from $30M and will re-sign. And he is meeting with Dwight (isn't this the second one) to really try and determine if the relationship with the organization is so far gone that he actually WILL walk away from the money.

He's in a tough spot, but ONLY due to the history of this thing and the past issues between Orlando and Dwight, he's got to pull the trigger on the best deal possible.

Hard to imagine him walking away from $30M with a team with no real history of issues, but much easier seeing him do it from Orlando. He knows what it'd be like to take the floor every night there and doesn't want any part of that. (booing, being miserable no matter where he goes in the city, etc).

At least with a new team - even where he doesn't want to be, like Houston - he will be "loved and cheered" wherever he goes, as the fans along with the organization attempt to win him over.

People the Mavs are a legit threat, they will have a better roster than us.

    Collison
    Mayo
    Marion
    Dirk
    D12

    or

    Lin
    Jrich
    Parsons
    Dmo
    D12

Dallas is closer to contention than us right now.

I'd say his value now is Martin, Patterson, Morris, that Johnson kid that wants to be traded, that top 55 protected 2nd round pick from Sac that may have expired and a free weekend stay if Rob and his wife attend a 90 minute timeshare seminar (with no obligation to purchase).

(No, not saying this Fisher guy is credible)

5-yr vs. 4-yr makes me believe Dwight re-ups wherever he goes. For #Mavs, sitting and watching him go to #Rockets not all that comfy

And this is one of the things that makes Morey really good, he thinks several steps ahead. This alone makes me appreciate him greatly.

you make it sound like someone of Dwight's caliber couldn't get 4 years with a player option on the 5th, or 3 with an option, or pretty much anything he wants in that regard

That's because their owner is on the same page as today's superstar mentally and commercial wise. Les and Morey are on some let's be smart crap.

Everyone is just guessing right now. Even those with "sources" in DHo's camp are just guessing off of the public postures and leaks from the various parties.
Every side is posturing to score the best deal for itself.

I'm just wondering if Henni doesn't think the 'Best deal' is a acceptable one. If that is so then Rockets will have to up the deal to get it done or Henni will just sit back and start the season with Howard. If our deal is not acceptable why not? You never know when another team like Cleveland may change their mind on something or if Bynum changes his mind. You never know what may happen IMO Henni is playing this really well. If it's not the deal he wants the only thing he risks is getting out of bad contracts and losing Dwight, the latter which may happen any ways.

Still though, I'm not willing to risk if Dwight is saying (or telling his people to say) that he'll go to Dallas. Because I feel he'll get here...sit out some games due to his back, and make this a circus of a season while him and his camp plot to get him to Dallas or L.A

Is sending Howard to L.A for Bynum such a bad alternative? It seems like less risk and the Rockets would likely keep all of their key young core (Parsons, D-Mo, Lamb)

    Whether he's credible or not, it's likely....lol.

Dwight and his camp are TERRIFIED of being traded here because, again, he will NOT have a good choice in a year.

It will either be go somewhere he doesn't really want to go for THIRTY MILLION LESS (i.e. Dallas, Atlanta) or re-sign for the max he can with Houston.

Houston fans who REALLY want him traded here can only hope it's a Chris Webber situation all over again.
