Why could it not have been for both? a plan A and plan B scenario. Why do you assume that he doesnt like those picks and that they are only for a trade with Howard?

I think you should remember that, in a league where you need cap room to make blockbuster deals, Morey had 40 million of a 60 million cap wearing suits on the bench for a year and another 20M in a boot for two years after that.

And if you think the decision to tank multiple seasons, a la OKC, should earn you exec of the year, I encourage you to reflect on, say, the Kings and Bobcats, For how that usually works out.

The biggest dividing line with respect to how people feel about Morey is the line between strategy and execution. I think most people who have been vocally happy with Morey the past few years focus on his execution of smart trades and drafts within the strategy of rebuild without tanking. Others reject that strategy totally and thus under appreciate the savvy moves we've made pursuing it.

The fortunate news for everyone is now we get to try the new strategy with presumably the same savvy execution.

To go to plan B means plan A doesn't work. Now he's pretty smart to have plan B in the first place but let's not act like this was what he was planning the whole time. Orlando forced his hand by not agreeing to trade DH here...yet.

Either way is considered re-building and either way is better than what we had last season.

Also why does it have to be an either or answer? I would assume he wants Howard at the right price (which he basically said in the interview) but not at the expense of all of the talent and draft picks. If we don't get Howard (rebuilding the Boston way), then going with the youth and having a couple of really high lottery picks next season is fits right in with the plans of rebuilding the OKC way.

What's wrong with that? Isn't that what you want? Since he is giving you what you want are you really going to bash him because you think he did it by accident?

So now you're asking Morey to be a mind-reader, and be able to GUARANTEE that he can get Orlando to trade with him (even if it means it's against their will)?? Morey's preparation for what comes in the future HAS to take into account the unpredictability of the other 31 GMs.

That is a false statement. He was trying to get Bosh to force Toronto into a sign and trade but he did not have the cap space to sign him outright. And who was our Al Jefferson like asset to trade for a superstar?

It appears that you are bashing him in the previous posts that I responded to. Look man I'm not trying to hate on you but it just seems like posters are not happy regardless of what he does.

I agree. I'm critical of him but I can't stand the "don't get Dwight you dumb GM you" and the "why is Morey letting everyone who kept us mediocre go? What a worthless GM." pretty much a lose-lose situation for DM.

Some of us have jobs that require meetings, lunches, etc. You see the time I posted, it was at lunch while a client was on a phone call outside. I didn't have time to listen and didn't want to bother other patrons while sitting in a nice restaurant.

Wish I could rep Stack but I can't again so soon. Thanks for the insightful info anyways. I'm new here.

This is what I wrote at the end of April

Those are pretty common sense rules, so I'm not taking credit for reinventing the wheel. I am simply pointing out that what Morey said a little after 14 minutes into that interview reaffirmed my confidence in him as an exceptional GM.

Good interview, I listen to them in the morning every once in a while and Sean has definitely become a solid sports radio guy.

Morey sure is being whorey the past couple of weeks.
