What would be the point of postponing a trade? I would figure the Rockets would want to get a deal as soon as possible.

If we sign the other rooks, we will have to wait. I think we have to wait to see if that happens.

Therefore, we are waiting to see if we will have to wait on a trade.

The difference is our team is young.

There is a huge difference when you are trying to sneak into the playoffs with a team led by veterans versus trying to sneak into the playoffs with a team led by young players.

Last year it was definitely mediocrity because if we returned the core of that team then there was definitely a ceiling to how good that team could become.

If we are contending for the 8th seed this upcoming season it would mean a lot more because it would mean one of our young guys are leading the charge.

If you look at all the superstars today they were once on a low seed team. Guys like Durant and Rose were once 8th seeds (or 7th) and they grew from there.

I don't think your conclusion flows from your premise?

Historically speaking, guys drafted 12+ simply don't "develop" to superstar level. There are very rare cases, but it just doesn't happen.

If we are pushing for the playoffs with this current roster, that does not mean one of our guys is the next Durant. It could well mean one (or 2) of our guys is the next Scola, or Lowry, or Martin.

Just because they are "young" doesn't give them a higher ceiling! It simply means that what they can do is currently unknown.

So the key is to make a move using these guys while they are still young enough for someone to (foolishly) believe that they have a higher ceiling than they actually do!!

Of course the other thing that history tends to show is that if we give a bunch of young guys significant minutes, then we're probably a good thing to be picking in the top 5 next draft!!!

Another door closed in Hennigan today with the White/Jones signings. Not that it can't be re-opened. But Morey's message is clear. He's continuing to make transactions and do what is in the best interest of his team. Hennigan either has to jump on board or wait around for the next carousel ride. And all the trades are going to turn into cesspools. Nothing changes if he waits until the trade deadline unless OKC or the Clippers come to the table and I would think Hennigan already knows whether that is realistic or not.

Will be interesting to see what comes out of this meeting.

D Rose and Durant both were picked in the top 2! Face it...empty promises and a lottery bound team is suppose to excite me? We signed Lin in hopes of saving face so the fans would still have interest.

This. No wonder the signings were done the same day as they meet in L.A. This is Hennigan's last chance.

Mmmmm, not exactly last chance. But Morey is staying very firm on value he is willing to give up. I like it. Lets me know morey is not going to do the Dwight deal and landlock himself in. He's only gonna do the Dwight deal if he can walk away with assets, cap space, etc. to make another deal. Despite all the flack he's taken, he's doing a good job, even with this difficult situation with Orlando and Dwight. (And I'm still p... off about letting Goran walk.)

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting with Dwight.

So, DM is a god because he was able to complete transform a 9th seeded team into a lottery bound freak show and yet we salute him? I am not trying to hate on my team, I am just so frustrated...everyone around us continues to strive for a winning team, yet we have cap room...yeah..we had room this summer as well and we made a BIG splash with a center that Yao Ming would have dominated. We have been through four years of pain, why not two or three more years? I love action and roster turnover when it equates to WINNING!

If you make the playoffs with these guys of their first year of playing, one of them will become a perennial all-star...that happens rarely. I don't give a flip where they were drafted because history also shows that...where you are drafted doesn't put a cap on your ceiling either.

I don't think that is the key at all. I mean for some people it seem to be to trade our guys for someone better but in certain cases that would be stupid to do. Spurs could have traded Tony Parker years ago when he was a young guy for a currently better player, look what happened. They stuck with him and he's become their best option. Always "Upgrading" is not always better. Sometimes it is better to stand pat and really see what you have before you go giving it away.

With all that said this team making the playoffs is not the same as last year making the playoffs. It's not jumping back on the mediocrity treadmill because the team can grow, last years team couldn't do that. They would have just been in the same spot, competing for a 8th seed.

You keep right on believing that Dwight takes a $30 million paycut to sign in Dallas with an aging Dirk or on the perpetually-mediocre Hawks. :) Impressive persistence, even if it's lacking logic.

Yeah really ticks you off and it also shows you to a certain extent employees in the Rockets front office are full of it. This could have been done years ago but instead they waste years because they decided to milk Yao Ming as long as they could even when he was hurt and the biggest idiot in the world even knew Yao was done so I know they did. So what is it really about business or winning at that point Les? Gotta ask that question outside of all that I like the idea of rebuilding they just need to cut the BS and do what takes to win and stop getting these one dimensional (my stats will deceive you) players and get just plain better basketball players. They finally did it this year draft wise lets see where we go from here.

So, is it possible Hennigan is in LA to tell Howard he is getting traded? I recall a post by The Cat on the rookie signing thread that a deal could be completed today, due to the process of going to League Offices.
