This seems to fit well in this thread.

Texan accidentally fires shot at Walmart

DALLAS, July 24 (UPI) -- Dallas police said they arrested a man whose gun accidentally went off inside a Walmart store, injuring two other customers.

Todd Canady, 23, of Waco had allegedly bolted from the store in the Lake Highlands district Monday night when he was confronted by an off-duty police officer about the shooting, which left a woman and a 5-year-old child wounded.

Police told the Dallas Morning News they grabbed Canady after a short foot pursuit and booked him on charges of injuring a child and evading arrest.

KDFW-TV, Dallas/Fort Worth, said Canady, who has a concealed-weapons permit, was reportedly reaching for his wallet in the checkout line but grabbed the pistol he was carrying instead. The gun went off, wounding Canady in the buttocks. The bullet then hit the floor and sent fragments into the other two victims.

An off-duty officer saw the incident and confronted Canady, who allegedly ran off.

You're not allowed to shoot guns in Walmart.

Very true. And yet, a CHL-holding legal gun owner that is supposed to be responsible and well-trained with proper gun use did just that because he thought his gun was a wallet and managed to injure two people.

I enjoyed piers Morgan tonight - Michael Moore was the guest and the topic was gun control.

Great point - most Americans would agree that citizens shouldn't be allowed to possess nuclear weapons...

so on some level bearing 'arms' may need some 21st century language for clarification. What that is? Who knows, but I have a hard time believing more guns = less crime.

Meh, it's an old point and basically all he had during his crap movie. The legal reason you can't own a nuke is the reason you can't own a nuclear reactor and the waste is heavily regulated.

I really wish these shootings would spur more talk about mental health research, rather than gun control.

I'm not completely against closing the gun show loop hole, but it's still not going to deter a motivated individual. Fact is, no gun law will help prevent people from killing people. The best thing is more research in the mental health field, so that diagnosing these tendencies prior to action become feasible.

Or the people who are pro gun control, and the people fighting restriction can keep yelling at each other to no avail. Even though neither side is listening. Only waiting to talk.

How about even if it doesn't prevent rampage killings, it has the fringe benefit of HELPING PEOPLE. LOL

It just makes too much sense I guess.

Listening to reason isn't as important as winning an argument, right or wrong.

Laws don't prevent crimes? Tell me more about how laws do not work because crimes are still committed.

Well this thread was a fun read (all 20 pages, lol). I especially got a chuckle out of the "standard derivative" (it is standard deviation aka the square root of the variance). I'm also still waiting on one good reason for any private citizen to own an assault rifle or automatic rifle or whatever you want to call them.

I would love to see guns banned for everyone except police and militia but it will never happen. And when you live in cities with high crime rates/are considered unsafe like Detroit, Atlanta, Memphis, etc., then I can see the logic of having a handgun or pistol or even rifle but an assault rifle?? C'mon man, that is just not necessary for the average Joe to even think about getting his hands on let alone dream about it!

And I have heard the arguments before from the anti-gun control crowd about how eliminating guns or banning them will just make it worse. Well re-read some of rocketsjudoka's posts in this thread, especially the one that debunks the myth of Australia going to hell because their private citizens don't have guns. Guns are designed to kill things whether it is animals or humans. Why is it that almost all mass murderers use guns while serial killers do not (outside of Son of Sam, David Berkowitz)? And yes there IS a big difference between a mass murderer and a serial killer.

This attitude of "my right to own a gun" trumping my right to pursue a life of happiness really concerns me. If our country can't do a better job of screening out the crazies from obtaining these guns, then eliminate the guns all together.
