We know the Nets want(ed) Scola. We also know that the Bobcats are interested in Humphries, but would have to amnesty Diop to sign him. The Rockets apparently want to get rid of Scola's long term deal.

    So...

    Bobcats trade: Diop
    Receive: Humphries (S&T)

Nets trade: Humphries (S&T), future 2nd rounder
    Receive: Scola

    Rockets trade: Scola
Receive: Diop (expiring, makes $2M less than Scola this year), Nets future 2nd rounder

    Who says no?

Not saying I put any thought into the Bynum AND Gasol theory, but if we did have Gasol we could simply trade him sometime before the 2013 season. I'm sure there would be plenty of suitors.

Here's hoping that David Aldridge is right (in that the Rockets amnestying Scola isn't a done deal just yet) and that this all is a ploy for a potential buyer like the Nets to stop playing games and pull the trigger on a Scola trade.

Cmon Billy King, do it already!

The Rockets say no and never talk to the Bobcats again. Scola is so much better than Diop its not even funny.

This isn't about better or worse. It's about contract length and having flexibility moving forward.

    Is something like this possible:

    HOU gets

    Josh Smith
    Chris Duhon
    Jason Richardson

    ORL gets

    Jeremy Lamb
    Patrick Patterson
    TOR Lottery Pick (from HOU)
2014 1st Round Pick (from ATL)
    Kevin Martin
    Cash Considerations (from HOU/ATL)

    ATL gets

    Dwight Howard
    Hedo Turkoglu

Any tweaks need to be made to this deal?

So Atlanta ends up trading JSmoove and a 1st for Dwight Howard and Hedo? And we give up Lamb, Patterson, Martin and a lottery pick for JSmoove, Duhon, and Richardson? Atlanta would get away with robbery in this deal and it would send the Rockets back into mediocrity with less flexibility.

Orlando has said they won't do a Dwight deal with anyone unless they can unload some of their bad contracts. So, I'm assuming we'll have to eat some of those (if we enter into a deal with ORL).

Like I said, it's not perfect. What changes would you make to that deal? Assuming you wanted Smith, of course...

i wouldn't proceed in that direction at all.
You get a marginal-All star non-franchise type player with questionable leadership qualities.

You go for him (or for similar players) once you have your main guy. Be it Bynum, Howard, CP3, top draft guy or whoever.

I realize this straps us a bit financially and other salary cap moves would have to be made, but doesn't Josh Smith increase our chances of signing Chris Paul next offseason?

i don't think so. one, why would CP3 leave 5/110 mil in LA next on a good team to go to Houston for 4/80 mil and a worse team.

even if you get Howard, i don't see CP3s as a realistic target.

secondly, as you said, there's not that much money. next year:
    Lin/Asik - close to 19 mil;
    J-Smith - lets say 15 mil; although i think he probably looks for max;
guys on rookie contracts - very roughly 15 mil (since we don't know where the Rockets pick next year); potentially over 20 mil with the Rockets and Raptors picks.
Lets say there's no Lin, Patterson, Lamb and Raptors pick, and you add those other contracts like you suggest. Still not enough room for CP3.

I wouldn't give up that much of our talent if we're only getting JSmoove in return. We'd be overpaying by a lot. That's the kind of package I would give up in order for us to receive Howard himself.

Not really. I don't think JSmoove is enough of a difference of being able to stay in LA and play with Blake Griffin to make CP3 even consider leaving.

It's for the contributing members only.
