The most promising lithuanian players are coming to the NBA alongside each other. Colangelo already said that Jonas Valanciunas wouldn't have anything for granted in his rookie season, so both guys are almost in the same position for their respective teams.

Who would have a better rookie season? What's your take?

Jonas probably he is a higher pick for a reason. However, maybe not because Jonas is two years younger.

Jonas will be a better player/better career. Jonas will not have a better season this season. He is way to raw to adapt well down low.

Jonas will be a foul machine. Donatas has a more polished offensive game already since he's older.

Jonas owns his spot and is a big part of TOR's future; Donuts will have to fight it out with 4 other players with intriguing upside.

I'm partial but, Donuts. I do think Donuts has many weapons to use already. I also think that Lin (will make Donuts look better offensively) + Asik (will make Donuts look better defensively) will compliment Donuts more than Lowry compliments Jonas. Jonas has a higher upside than Donuts, but not as much as their selection order would suggest. One of the biggest knocks on Donuts was that he could not rebound, which has been his greatest improvement last season (which also seems to be the stat that translates most).

So, I think Donuts finishes top 5 on the rookie ladder while Jonas finishes 6th- 8th.

Think Jonas has more potential and showed gilmpses of greatness in Europe, will be interesting to see who adapts to the NBA style more quickly.

I think Valanciunas will be given more minutes, being a high pick and on a team with no other rugged 7 footer like him.

Motiejunas will have to fight for his minutes against other young players who were drafted in similar spots and also having promise.

Jonas will probably put up better numbers, because he'll have to do all the rebounding.

Having watched both of them play, my gut feeling is Jonas. But D-Mo brings such an unusual skill set for a 7 footer to the NBA it is difficult for me to estimate his ceiling. Valanciunas however may be an all star. I don't know so I did not vote.

I don't really understand the reasoning behind that quote. What exactly gives Jonas more upside? He lacks the skill that Donatas brings for sure. I don't know Who has more athltisism between the two. I think Donatas more NBA ready just based on his skill on the offensive end of the floor. Jonas will probably be better on the defensive end but Motiejunas looks like he will be ok on defense as well. Both players are likely to step into a starting role on their teams.

they started off as friends but will finish as enemies like sasha and dragic..vlade and petrovic, for donuts fights with wolves and jonas just wants to look pretty and sing.

(both will do well. defensively, they will struggle because It's hard playing defense on air)

I was able to watch Jonas play at UH a few weeks ago. Lithuania vs Great Britain... nothing really stood out to me about him. At this point, I have no idea what his game is supposed to be like.

    I pick Donatas Motiejunas.

I say this because D-Mo doesn't need to be as good defensively playing the 4, as Jonas has to be playing the 5. Also offensively D-Mo is miles a head of Jonas, even when D-Mo was J.V's age.

In terms of defense, being the last line of defense at the 5 position at the NBA level is a very big learning curve, it will take time for Valanciunas to adjust. Specially to NBA level athletes(Lebron, Durant, Westbrook, Iggy, etc) going right at him. I definitely see him getting in foul trouble a lot in his rookie year.

In terms of offense, I think we will also see Jonas struggle off the bat against longer, more athletic NBA centers (Dwight, Bynum, Jordan, Cousins, Chandler, etc). He's advantage of being the longest most athletic big wont be as apparent at the NBA level. He will need to develop other areas of his game offensively (mid-range jumpshot) to be effective at this level.

Although with all this said, the kid still holds amazing potential. But I'd take D-Mo over him.

Jonas V is gonna end up being a better player, but IMHO Donuts is gonna have a comparable career because he plays the PF spot. IMHO the pF spot is much easier than the C, you don't have to bang around with physical dudes and your coach lets you get away with floating in the perimeter.

Who knows, maybe we can engineer a trade for Jonas V next season and end up with the two of them LOL.
