Bulls won't match Asik's offer sheet

Omer Asik officially will be introduced as a member of the Rockets at a Wednesday news conference in Houston after the Chicago Bulls declined to match his three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet.

Before flying to Houston, Asik told the Tribune how much he enjoyed his two seasons with the Bulls, who invested three second-round picks to acquire his draft rights from Portland in June 2008.

"I'm very thankful the Bulls gave me the opportunity to start my NBA career in Chicago," Asik said. "It's a great organization in a great city with great fans. It was a great place to be introduced to the NBA because the organization has created a culture of competitiveness and teamwork, good lessons to learn.

"I'm also thankful for all my teammates. Our practices were so competitive that it helped make me a better player. We had great leadership too. I also couldn't have had a better coaching staff to work with me and help me continue my development."

According to team sources, the Bulls offered Asik the most they could under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, a four-year deal worth close to $24 million. They also made the fourth year a player option, a rarity for most organizations on a longer-term deal.

Team sources also said coach Tom Thibodeau flew to Los Angeles to meet Asik for breakfast as free agency opened on July 1, reiterating his role and importance to the team. In the end, the chance to start in Houston and re-enter free agency in just three years after his lucrative deal expires led to the offer sheet that the Bulls declined to match.

"I'm looking forward for the new opportunity in Houston," Asik said.

If we get Dwight Howard and Lin has a good year, I'm almost certain Morey will push for Harden. That's assuming the likely event that CP3 is off the table.

Remember when we lost Rafer for Lowry, and we were all like, Lowry?
Well he turned out to be pretty good. I trust Asik will pan out too.

Very surprised we got both Lin and Asik, I was preparing to not get both or any, glad to have both aboard, looking forward to good things from both.

I keep hearing from Bulls fans that he has terrible hands, and can't catch a basketball though.
