Not sure about the legitimacy of this, but I like. A lot. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Astros">#Astros</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Mets">#Mets</a> have been in trade discussions. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Astros">#Astros</a> would send P Brandon Lyon to <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Mets">#Mets</a> for P Domingo Tapia</p>— MLB Sports Report (@MLBSportsReport) <a href="https://twitter.com/MLBSportsReport/status/225433314838851584" data-datetime="2012-07-18T03:34:25+00:00">July 18, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Domingo Tapia is a 20-year-old (born 12/16/1991) native of the Dominican Republic. Trade Altuve for a top of rotation prospect. 2b options galore in the system Love the kid, and he's solid, and fun to watch because of his stature, but he ain't a world-beater by any stretch of the imagination. Stock is probably still high enough to get a beast in return. He's the only option we have to get a TOR potential pitcher via trade. Would be shrewd.
Colby Lewis just announced out for the year for the Rangers. Would think the Rangers and Stros will at least have a conversation.
I get the feeling the Rangers will be buyers but will likely be looking for a bigger fish than Wandy. I think they're going to need to add an ace if they want to get back to the WS and actually win one this time.
My favorite quote during the MLB draft was "another year, another group of first round picks about to be traded for Cliff Lee"
I'm thinking a few minor deals will wrap things up for the Astros today: Wilton Lopez, Justin Maxwell and even Chris Snyder I think will get moved. Maxwell in particular would be a typical Luhnow-esque move since he was picked up off the scrap heap and has performed pretty well so getting back an average prospect for him would be awesome.
I think the Phillies would be crazy to have a fire sale. IMO, this year was an aberration. I think they can tweak and be right back at the top next season. A healthy Halladay, with Lee and Hamels should dominate. If they can fix the offense, they'll be right back in contention.
Sounds like Pence to San Fran is all but done. My favorite line on twitter right now is "so is there any hugging yet?"
what an absolute disaster of a deal pence was for them. and that's with him performing well. ed wade did a number on them. it's going to be interesting looking back on that in 5-10 years. could be downright larry andersonian.
That's the deal that netted us Singleton and Cosart, right? And they turned it into Nate Schierholtz and two fairly scrub-y ML prospects a year later? Ed Wade, as a Major League GM, was a total, head-scratchingly awful one. But if this thing gets turned around... thatt Pence deal is going to be the Herschel Walker piece of this puzzle. To get two top-flight prospects for a guy who a year later is fetching pure garbage.... giant, "Whew!"
Isn't Wade a special assistant to the GM in Philly now? I guess he's reverted back to his old self then. That trade of Pence to SF is turrble.
AND PTBNL- Domingo Santana!!! Who could potentially have a better career than Pence. It was no doubt the best deal Ed Wade did and ever will make.
