Exactly.... Saying it's a comic book movie is such a cop out, and I'm pretty sure The Dark Knight is aimed at adults and not little kids, no???
I'm not on board with this seemingly common gripe. It's simply not something the audience would have interest in viewing. Had they shown it, it would have taken away from the main story. The momentum would have been wrecked. Thus the audience is expected to imagine that it happened because well... it obviously did. Spoiler And after 2.5 movies of developing the character I think we're all capable of inferring he could make it back... so what, I don't get it? Y'all want to actually spend 20 minutes worth of footage of Bruce Wayne running around streets, catching boats, and riding on the back of trucks then sneaking back in? C'mon man. We're not children, we can figure it out.
I saw it last night at Moody Gardens in their IMAX theater, and I gotta say I was blown away. If you haven't seen it in IMAX, I definitely recommend going there. Granted, it is in Galveston but it is worth it. Trust me. As far as the movie goes, I was left speechless. I will dare say that it was better than the Dark Knight. It was close, but TDKR was better. This movie literally gave me chills. Bane was incredible, Tom Hardy did a fantastic job. Although his face was covered throughout the whole movie I was still able to capture his emotions through his eyes. The last scene when Thalia stabbed Batman and Bane was there hearing her speech, I felt what Bane was feeling. You could see it in his eyes. Man that was awesome. Anne Hathaway did a superb job as well. I was afraid she was gonna overact and bring the movie down, but she rose to the occasion. Definitely one of her best roles. Morgan Freeman, Michael Cane, and Gary Oldman were superb as usual. Joseph Gordon Levitt really amazed me. I've seen him in other roles, but in this film he was incredible. He's on his way to be among hollywood's best. To me, this was Christian Bale's best batman. The way he rose from the ashes was amazing. Although he played a fictional super hero, it felt real. You could feel his pain when he learned Gotham could be destroyed. And when the final fight scene came to fruition, I was on the edge of my seat. Batman WASN'T going to be stopped. Overall, I'd give it a 9.1 out of a 10. It wasn't perfect, but it was as close as you could get.
I keep hearing this same criticism everywhere and it's honestly not a plot hole Spoiler Fox was able to keep an entire DIVISION of top secret military hardware off the books for an entire decade. My question is why anyone, even a casual moviegoer thinks that Bruce would keep his Batman resources tied in with his Wayne Enterprises stock? Obviously Batman has 1001 contingencies. The most basic one would be an account/contacts accessible anywhere in the world. Even if Wayne went bankrupt getting anywhere in the world wouldn't be a problem for Batman. This one seemed very elementary to me, I'm honestly wondering why people would think his operations for Batman would be tied to publicly traded shares on the Gotham Stock exchange. Or that Bruce wouldn't have planned of the possible need to get anywhere in the world quickly at any time, without associating with his Bruce Wayne identity. I had a bigger problem with where Selina was getting all her gear. I'm okay with her training, because Nolan lays out "training is nothing, will is everything. the will to act." Selina's motivations are clearly laid out so using Nolan's own rules I'm okay with that. But where did she get all that gear? This criticism is using Nolan's own rules... he goes to great lengths to show where Bruce gets his stuff. Where's she get hers? Literally flourishes... like Bane and Batman fighting on the streets to me aren't really plot hole, just stylistic choices to enhance the movie. Every cop in the city going down into the sewers seemed lame to me though. Spoiler Yeah I thought it was jarring too, because it was too quick. That scene though refers to a scene in TDK when female Robin comes blasting to save Bruce from the Mutant Leader (who was amalgamated into the Bane character in the Nolan movie). I think that Nolan was trying to work that in much like the backbreaking image but it wasn't well executed or wasn't handled well in editing.
Another silly thing about this whole trilogy really was Spoiler A billionaire playboy dressing up like a bat jumping off rooftops.
Yeah I would say comics are probably not for you or their movie counter parts. If you have watched other films by Nolan (Inception, Insomnia, Memento, etc.), you know he is in the creme of the crop of writers, and is more than fully capable. I just think when writing something like a Batman flick, you have to be aware and careful not to alienate the younger viewers (ie 13-16 yr), after all , at the end of the day, it is Batman, and not specifically a Rated -R, Detective / film noir.
If someone'd shot him, they might have detonated the nuke. Not spoken in the movie, but the fear would certainly be there.
Read it all. I don't know about everybody else, but I'm just on a high right after watching a movie like this... but I come back to this thread.. and brings me to the right perspective.
Nearly 10 years ago there was a poster who put the most trivial write-up of TT: LOTR on here. ("We shouldn't be here, Mr Frodo." I agree, Sam! This is silly!) Your post reminds me of that. Not that you don't make any good points, but my God, did you sit there with a penlight and a notebook? ("23 minutes 10 seconds in, Selena Kyle says etc: just silly....")
at this point people were saying this. and now the movies are even better and people start b****ing haha http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=97158
Watched all of those films and I enjoy comic book movies, down to ones like Daredevil. I enjoyed DKR and saw it twice (yes, the full IMAX was definitely the way to go). There's a simple litmus test for plot holes - whether or not you need repeated viewings or someone pointing them out. This was a film, first time through, I had too many "say what now?" moments. Second time, a couple were answered by the Spoiler Talia reveal , but the rest were more glaring and others popped up. My wife also had a list of "what was that about" issues, and it's been a major source of criticism among reviewers (pro and peanut gallery). A couple more examples (among dozens): Spoiler Why in the world wouldn't Bane/Talia go ahead and flood the chamber after they had the core-bomb? The blood transfusion to fool the CIA CSI...wouldn't they go with dental? There's going to be no trace of DNA left on the guy except for the pint of Pavel's blood? The endless list of people having inexplicable spider sense to find each other: Blake being thrown out of the manhole hunt and immediately going right to the sewer outlet Gordon ended up in. Because that HAD to be where he was going, given the gun fire and explosions. Wayne knowing exactly where Kyle would be...made even more preposterous since it shook down under street level. Batman taking the day to paint his symbol on the building before meeting up with Gordon to hand him the flare...and oops! Gotta go, Blake's about to be executed! Thankfully, I knew exactly where that might be even though I haven't seen him for 5 months! The editing goof where Bane pulls Tate from Crane's court.....before Wayne leaves her so he can go with Fox. Ultimately, I think this movie was too big/epic to fit even under a 3 hour window. I do love that Nolan managed to meld Knightfall, The Dark Knight Returns, and No Mans Land so well....but this needed to be split into two 2+ hour films. I enjoyed the movie (gave it a high 8/10), I am surprised Nolan's team left so many glitches. Yes, many could have been cleaned up with just 4 second cut scenes or 20 sec montages. Unfortunately, without them.....I foresee this film being ripe for a Master Pancake.
How many other comic book movies give you the same bang for your dollar with the same chills and feel? As said we already know how the process would have been had they chosen to brake it down and show us how he got back but we know how savvy he is to making things go his way.
Hey guys! Read my 2-page diatribe about how terrible this movie is! So awful! Geeez, how did this make it out of production?!?! 8/10 (just makin' fun, yo)
Nope, just from memory from seeing it at the midnight showing on Thursday. I do hope people do not misconstrue my ranting as saying I didn't like it. I did. But I think we are the toughest on the ones we love. I think cumulatively I spent more time and effort on Prometheus than Rises, but in both cases, they were highly anticipated for a long time, and while I think both were overall very good, I cannot help but be jarred by their flaws. Oh, and unlike many people, I have no problem at all with Bruce suddenly making his way from one side of the world to the other. It just seemed like a given that he would be able to do that, given his resources (no doubt hidden or cached, as others have said as well..) I do NOT consider that one of the 'flaws', for what it's worth. I think mostly, mostly.. Spoiler it was the thing with the cops.. springing forth out of the sewers after three months, in winter time, looking and behaving as though they had just popped down there earlier in the afternoon.. it was just plain silly. Ohh, and one last thing.. Spoiler I can picture all those other guys down in that pit, after Wayne climbed out.. maybe yelling, 'Hello? Hey can you throw down a rope or something? Mr. Wayne? Hello? Remember us? Little help? ....... damnit, not again!'
Dang you're right.. I was thinking it was the other one.. ok it was like 3am. But yeah, you're right.
