I agree with the OP 100%. History tends to repeat itself. Good luck finding your "superstar" player in the draft range between 12-20.

No we would not have a "sure thing". We would have a player coming off of back surgery. Even if he has doc clearance he may never be the same. Doc clearance doesn't mean you are good as new, it means you are cleared to to play. I speak from experience as I have had back surgery and have doc clearance yet I am not the man I used to be, not even close. Don't automatically assume we would be getting the Dwight you are used to seeing. In fact, the WORST case scenario would be getting DH and have him quickly sign a max contract and then be a shadow of his former self or not be able to play at all.

A lot of people are underestimating the surgery he had. Look at Amare Stoudemire. Some players are never the same. Not saying I am opposed to it, just saying that there are considerable risks.

I would much rather have a team full of 4+ potential all-stars than one with a disgruntled superstar.

I do not know why people do not realize this. His injury scares the hell out of me because I have had back surgery and can say I am not the man I used to be and my job doesn't center around running and JUMPING for a living. I will be really surprised if he is ever 100%. Now a 75% Dwight would still be pretty good but not worth as much.

There was a report out where he stated that he was prepared to sit out if he were to stay in Orlando. IIRC.

Sit out because he physically can't play because of the injury? Or sit out because he no longer wants to be a magic?

Did you have the exact same back surgery that howard did? If you don't mind me asking.

I'm thinking the latter. Not sure.

Obviously Dwight would have to pass a physical before any trade went down. While the doctors could be wrong, they should be able to give a pretty accurate prognosis, and everyone seems to expect a full recovery at this point.

Yes. I heard that it was the latter as well. He really hates the Magic franchise.

Yes I believe I did have the exact same surgery as DH according to THIS LINK. I have had the same surgery twice for two different disc eight years apart. In this procedure the surgeon only removes what part of the disc that is pushing on the nerve. The problem is it leaves scar tissue which can cause problems. I would not be surprised at all if he has Sciatica which is pain and numbness down his leg. The running and jumping that come with basketball will not be easy on his back.

I have had full doc clearance from both of my back surgeries. If I overdo things even a little bit I pay for it with a weeks worth of sciatica. Before the first surgery at the L5 - S1 level, the sciatica from overdoing it would be in the lower part of my leg. My second surgery was at the L3-L4 level. Now when I overdo it I have pain and numbness from sciatica down my entire leg so I know I have residual affects from both surgeries. I honestly do not believe he will ever be 100% what he once was even with full doc clearance. The fact that he is a power player who does a lot of jumping for dunks and rebounds will compound it even more.

Well the article says that they anticipate a full recovery. But you are right there is considerable risk. We will see what happens I guess.

That is why I would not give up much without seeing him play. I would give up more at the trade deadline after seeing him play for half a season and knowing he is the same player.

I overdid it yesterday and can't sleep due to sciatic pain down my left leg. That is why I am posting at 3 AM when I have to be at work at 7 AM.

Hate to say it dude but the chances of getting one all star out of the lot is pretty slim. Drink more Kool aide.

MORE FUEL ON THE FIRE PLEASE!!

I'm loving these rookies. Hope we can keep them all but even if that's not the case, I'll track their careers anyway.

See? Now you are just hating. At least three of our rookies will be participating in this years rookie all-star festivities.
