I think some are misunderstanding what other mean by build around. Nobody is treating him like a superstar and saying that he will be the be all and end all of the franchise. But if he is the starting pg you have to have good players that have at least a few of the necessary skills to compliment the starting pg's skill set. Shooters for example, a pnr finishing big, cutters etc.
There is. I edit all the time (I'm a terrible speller). How do I do it? Go to the Front Page, look at the bottom, and you'll see a link called Tip Jar. Click on it and you will discover how you can contribute to the BBS. PayPal, write a check, however you like. Contribute what you think you can afford, what you feel like donating to help Clutch pay for running the site, the servers, the software, etc., and not only will you be able to edit, but there are other benefits. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. If it takes a little while to get your Contributing Member status, shoot an e-mail to Clutch, who's very busy running his own business (you can find out about that on the Front Page, if you wish), being a husband and father, and all the other stuff we all have to deal with in everyday life. Frankly, I don't know how he finds time for it all!
Decision making does improve over time. Simple things like watching tape improves decision making. Experiencing different situation while playing improves decision making. It took Rondo how many years to become the pg he is right now. Things like that don't happen over night. But I do hear you. Lin has so many things he needs to work on to be honest. It is hard to say that one thing is his biggest relative weakness haha.
To the mods: Before it gets out of control, something that worked for the New York Jets forums was an entire Tim Tebow sub forum. Even though I'm a self proclaimed Lin fan boy, I also realize that having your "true" fan base being invaded by a bunch of bandwagon jumpers is pretty freaking annoying.
First off, let me apologize on behalf on him for making borderline racist stereotypes of his own. But just because you don't have any underlying, consciously or not, racial stereotypes/thoughts , doesn't mean there haven't been others or are others out there who do hold his race against him and look at him a certain way.
Brooks and Francis never had good court vision. Court vision cannot be taught. Lin has court vision. Decision making can improve through experience. Court vision cannot. Those are two different things.
Cxbby is a grown up, u don't have to apologize and I'm not offended. I've been called worse, but like I've said before, I sleep well at night. I've never said lin didn't face profiling. Hell, I get profiled a lot and I'm as clean cut as they come as a african american. I'm just saying people in the nba who professional careers are on the line look past that stuff. I mean we've seen every different kind of person in the world get drafted in the nba. Although its made up of predominantly african americans, the owners, gms, scouts, and luxury box owners are white. The don't care your color as long as you can hoop. Universities are well documented racist organizations. Look at the deans, president, coaches,ad, and boosters. They have an extreme country club type of mentality. In the nba,its about winning and selling the product. There are guys from all corners who were drafted either too high or too low,but I think it was more on their quote potential and projection vs race, color, creed. We've seen it a lot where a guy is drafted later and on a redraft is a lot higher. Did morey cut lin because he was whatever he is or was it his projection that made him miss? I'm not the biggest morey fan,but I highly doubt he looked at lin and said he didn't pass the eyeball test when he had a chunky pg like lowry and a non athletic center like hayes. Maybe he didn't practice well or couldn't practice.
I seriously think you are being naive if you think that he did not face some level of racial profiling (most likely subconscious) during the draft process and in his time in the NBA.
It is very very unlikely Lin will ever be a superstar. To be frank it is very hard to win a championship without a superstar. It is possible though. You need a good coach, a great bench, and usually multiple stars. The Pistons did it. The Kings would have done it if the refs didn't help the Lakers.
Lol. You are not going to be able to convince everyone. Just let things play out and we will see. Anybody can become a superstar. Nobody ever thought Nash and Rondo would be what they are now. Most people are totally convinced that Kyrie is going to be the next CP3 in 3 years. It will be interesting to see what happens down the road.
On stereotyping, may be? After all, not many non-black NBA prospects have the physical gift of a Steve Nash. Well, Lin is a lot better with same level of NBA experience than Nash, so what? He cannot have the same mental determination like Nash to improve, can he?
At the very least Jeremy Lin's upside is a player that can completely put a franchise on his back and lead them to the play-offs winning games with last second shots and scoring 38 points in some of the highest profile games. There is no way to argue about that being his upside because he has already done it.
Haha, I can try! Well no thats not really the case, I'm just contributing to the discussion and thread . I leave it to the reader to come to their own conclusions. It helps to pass the off-season waiting for basketball to come back. I was just curious as to their reasoning or hearing more on their opinion.
You people need to relax I said it was very very unlikely not that Jeremy has 0% chance of being a superstar. Superstars are a very rare breed. To be frank I don't consider Melo to be a superstar since he is only good offensively and an average passer and defender. Heck even Rondo isn't a surefire superstar since he isn't a good scorer(piss poor jump shot) though his scoring was impressive during his playoff run. Also please don't compare Jeremy to Nash. I am tired of the comparisons. They aren't even similar. Jeremy is more like Tony Parker than Nash. It is no insult to say that someone is likely not to be a superstar. Tony Parker has been a top 5-top 10 PG in this league for many years and he usually referred to as a superstar.(though I consider better than some superstars) Also Nash has incredible court vision and has always been a fantastic shooter even early in his career. Jeremy has good court vision not amazing court vision like the like's of Nash and Magic Johnson, Stockton, etc. Nash does not have the slashing ability Lin has. Like I said totally different players. Lin also isn't a pass first PG he is a hybrid like Tony Parker, Rose, etc.
Also the reason why Nash played so poorly early on was because he was utilized poorly.... He played behind Kevin Johnson, Sam Cassell and then later on Jason Kidd.... Poor circumstances.
