http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/mike-antoni-biggest-believer-jeremy-lin-insane-ll-reunited-houston-2013-14-article-1.1119328 don't know if this has been posted, but was wondering what you all thought about this.
I hope not. The guy can run a team that can score, but will never win a chip cuz he can't coach defense.
Is that not something that 3-4 assistant coaches could help with? I know that even offensive-minded coaches are not anti-defense... but our offense under JVG was boring as hell. I guess these head coaches are control-freaks!
D'Antoni played Lin when every single other of his horrendous PGs became injured. D'Antoni was ready to cut Lin in 24 hours had he not become an instant sensation. D'Antoni believed in Lin before Linsanity as much as I believe in the Easter Bunny. D'Antoni's ability to judge talent had Toney Douglas in front of Lin until Douglas showed that he was the worst PG in the NBA. At least the Rockets chose Dragic and Lowry over Lin, not some of the crappiest PGs the NBA has ever seen.
I was going to say D'Antoni couldn't see talent if it slapped him in the face, but you summed that up and some.
All for it. Let D'Antoni be the offensive mastermind and let Sampson continue being the defensive coach. McHale should get out of coaching, or if he's going to stay, he should be willing to be more creative with the offense. He's always harping on how we're just going to have to outwork the other team and just play really hard. That's all good and dandy, but how about playing smart too. How about out-smarting the other team?
While I guess Chris Finch will be the next coach, it doesn't hurt to bring in D'Antoni just to show Chris his offense. I think Finch also believes in less control for the offense.
