What's up fellas? Kid in his early 20's just purchased my first home theater system for my 50 inch Toshiba Regza. I went in the -$300 range because I'm in college and got 3 "kids" (2 mutts and a hound). Anyways here's the system I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005XQKQR8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 In hopes some of the more tech savy or home theater experienced posters see this, I had a few questions: First of what do y'all think of the purchase? I have a small aparment space, and don't mean to distburb the neighbors as I already went through the "disturbing neighbors" phase years ago. I don't want boomin' bass or anything too punchy just clean crisp sound. . The system is not coming with any cords, so I purchased an extra HDMI/ethernet cord and an optical digital audio cable. What other cords would I need to purchase to connect it to a: -Time Warner Cable Box -Xbox 360 and -The blu-ray player it comes with? How should I set up the speakers with a full shelf with little space, and some floor space below it? (there is some wall behind it I was thinking of installing small shelves) Anyways, if I'll highly appreciate any tips as it'll assist in my venture into home entertainment.
Looks like crap. I don't see any HDMI inputs anywhere so I doubt you can hookup your XBOX or cable box through it at all. If so, I would return it. Looks like the only thing you can do is hookup ONE audio (only) IN with a TOSLINK optical.
Not going to sound that good but at least it's a decent deal IF you got it for $200. A little too late but: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Onkyo-HT-S5...r_in_a_Box&hash=item56464aebc4#ht_6267wt_1102
Seriously. How are you going to use it without a receiver? http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S540...qid=1340672956&sr=1-2&keywords=Onkyo+HT-S5400
you can find a cheap bluray player anywhere. you don't need any of the extra wifi smart tv options on the bluray cause you can find all of it on the xbox360 (its better too). i say if you build a theater, just start with a receiver and 2 speakers. you can connect all your hdmi (buy the cables on monoprice) to it and get some decent stereo sound. it will be clean and good looking too. you can 2 cheap pioneer speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117405 and a receiver for under $300
I'd get this AVR and 2 pair of those speakers tinman linked if you can afford it. http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-1312-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B004U403S6
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10906&cs_id=1090601&p_id=8247&seq=1&format=2 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speakers $84.10 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882115371 Refurbished: YAMAHA HTR-3064BL 5.1-Channel AV Receiver $139.99 A little more expensive but it will sound better and you get 4in 1 out hdmi so all your stuff gets amplified. Also, if you decide to go tinman's route... these beat the dogsnot out of those pioneers. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-652
I'm actually looking into convincing my girl to buy me a system for my small apartment. I was looking at the exact same product the OP purchased. Why is everyone down on it and why is everyone suggesting a receiver?? What's the purpose of the receiver? I'm obviously dumb when it comes to this....
all of those 'all in one' products are of cheap quality. the speakers are usually with paper cones and the amplifier is usually pretty weak, also comes with a passive sub. you get much better sound with separate components.
nice, I read those pioneers were good, plus they were $50 on newegg. but if you say they are better I believe you. I was just looking at deals.
They are, and partsexpress is an awesome company to deal with. I had a 15" sub damaged in shipping and they sent me a new one before the rma got to them. I won't vouch for the sound quality of those monoprice speakers I linked to, but they have reviews on the site to make an informed decision.
A receiver is the "brain" of the system, it is able to switch from different sources (cable, xbox, dvd, bluray, ps3, computer) at the push of a button. On top of which it has the power to push speakers to were at normal listen volume you will not have distortion (blown speaker). Most are flexible with new and upcoming tech, allowing you to upgrade your speakers when you see fit. A 200 dollar system might seem like a deal but in the long run you would have wished that you would have spent 500 (at least) to have something that will work for 10 years. I have an onkyo SR 605 (midrange in price) and Polk towers with matching centers and rears, sounds great, but now I want to upgrade my receiver again for that dang fangled 3D.... This is your option for a "HTB" but at least with a receiver with options for 284... http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S350...?ie=UTF8&qid=1340693352&sr=8-2&keywords=onkyo I just hope that people don't waste money on bose products...
BUMP court of dreams, i will be buying this system you suggested in the next week. Do you think this CD disc changer is up to par to connect with the receiver? Also i can just play CD's straight from my XBOX (so maybe i don't need the Disc changer?) , but would the quality of sound be better coming from the disc changer instead of the XBOX? not sure if thats a legit question lol Please give me your advice !
sorry here is the link to the disc changer http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-DXC390-Disc-CD-Player/dp/B0000EZ1KK/ref=pd_sim_e_37
