Teams averaged 61 rebounds per game in 1962. So, using your method, Chamberlain would have averaged around 17.4 rebounds per game. Of course, I doubt any team risks playing him 48 minutes a game, so I would think he would average just enough rebounds to lead the league. EDIT: The reason it's 61 rebounds per game and not 71 is because, prior to 1971, basketball-reference counted "team" rebounds; now they just cound "player" rebounds. For example, add the rebounds of every player on Chamberlain's team and you'll get 5,105, but, according to basketball-reference, the Philadelphia Warriors grabbed 5,939 rebounds.
...because we are having an 'All Time Greatest Team' Draft, and some people just brush off the achievements of the Greats because they played in a different era. Wilt was a beast. He would be as unstoppable now as he was then. He had a vertical leap of 40"+...higher than Dwight Howard's. He was also a track star, and high jump champ. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=210596
he's a well known great, everyone will recognize his achievements.. Now, will you draft kevin johnson, walt bellamy, nate thurmond in the second round because they have the same stats as duncan, moses, thomas?
I think it's safe to say Wilt would dominate nearly every center in history, he's definitely a big plus for every team. Only bad aspect is his obsession for stats and lack of success in defnining games.
This was my last team... Comming off the bench, no less. Judges asking, 'who is Walt Bellamy? Bob Petitt is from Saturn....never heard of Nate Thurmond.....' Tip for judges: YouTube...watch them play & How they played. Good night y'all!
...don't you mean better stats?:grin::grin: ( and still no one mentions David Thompson or George McGinnis!!!)
Problem was stats can be misleading, I did research and read articles/experts pointing out most of these guys benefitted from a bad era, were unathletic and would not be suited for a modern game vs. athletic, versatile players. Thompson was a beast, yea, but your bigs have Scola-ish athleticsm.
so you take them in the 2nd or 3rd round? lmao... that's how it works. it's not always about stats. they are much better for a reason, no need to youtube lol
I have to agree to disagree with you on that. Walt Bellamy and Nate were as athletic as they come. Nate actually reminds me of a meaner version of Dwight Howard...and man could he block shots! Pettit wasn't as athletic, but made up for it with quickness and an outside jumpshot. Damn it is now 5:00 am... I am exhausted, but can't get to sleep!
Mixed up a bit, here's my explanation from the Draft: Thompson is obviously one of the most underrated guys and was one of the most electrifying two-guards in his era, with stunning athleticsm and a good jumpshot. He's basically a Jordan/Wade prototype. He's a good factor for Izak's team and would surprise. Jamers has Hill and Marion though, who would be able to keep up with him on defense and with their size. Pettit was good on offense and could still hang with modern bigs, but he lacks athleticsm and was a notorious hole on defense. Therefore him vs. Duncan would turn ugly in a minute. Thurmond was one of the best big defenders and shot blockers of all-time, but he was a weakness on offense and had a very low fg%, which would probably be even lower vs. modern guys, especially a beast like Moses. Bellamy was seemingly okay but not all-time material. Him vs. Ben Wallace would likely lead to Ben dominating the match-up.
