forgive me for channeling my inner Morey - but I think the Asik move was with the expectation that Dwight will only be able to play limited minutes to begin the season (recovering from back surgery).

he was brought in to play starter minutes and increase his trade value up until the deadline...

You would think that on a basketball website...people would actually know basketball.

I don't understand this love affair with a less-than-one-full-season rental of Dwight Howard...

Didn't Dwight get dominated by Yao every time the Magic and Rockets matched up? And I don't exactly remember getting deep in the playoffs with Yao and we had him for more than one year. One may bring up his injuries... Okay, so what about Dwight Howard's back surgery?

Really... Why do we want to trade for an Orlando Magic player who has potential back problems? I thought we saw that movie before already.

Not sure if serious. If we trade Asik after half of a season after all this poison pill controversy, that would probably be the worst PR move ever. No FAs would sign with us again. No one wants to be get rid of so quick.

The plan is not to rent him for a year. Why are Clutchfans members being so dense?

Funny thing is, they will always complain about anythig. They hate the team being mediocre but they don't like taking risks as well. Even if its a calculated risk.

if you trade Asik, it's enabling him to receive starter minutes with another franchise...similar to the year Gortat got matched by Orlando then shipped to Phx at the trade deadline.

you think Gortat still has his feelings hurt?

at the end of the day this is a business, and players shouldn't be coddled like petulant children

Monta Ellis for Asik i dont know why the Bucks would do that

But i would take that deal in a heartbeat, Ellis is a proven scorer, and can play nice D from time to time

Because a lot of people think it's a plan that is likely not to work out. Even if we get Dwight we are going to have to get another star and a half to compete in this stacked league. Odds are even with Howard we will be the 4th or 5th best team in the league at best for the next 3-5 years

To this day, I have not really heard any logical argument as to why it would be to Howard's benefit to leave after the season. For some absurd reason, fans somehow believe that all these "sources close to Dwight Howard" speak gospel and can't possibly be wrong, and that NBA decisions should be made based on these "sources."

I mean, the idea that people would believe such words so readily is why he thinks people are dense. Who needs common sense when you have gazillion different "insiders" posting "anonymous sources" telling you whether or not Dwight Howard has farted within the past hour?

What are the odds we keep Motie? I think he'd be a perfect fit with Dwight, or even with Asik at the beginning of the year.

Just to make sure you understand, Asik didn't sign with the Rockets because he thinks Houston is the most kick ass city in the entire country. He came because Morey was willing to pay him more money than any other GM. If Asik had a better offer elsewhere, he'd have told Morey to go screw himself rather than signing with us. If Asik thought Houston must be his home for the rest of his contract, he'd ask for less money and a no-trade clause.

So please, enough of the "oh noes, what if we hurt his feelings!?" Asik would be grateful Morey gave him $25+mil contract, and all future FAs would not hesitate to take our money if it's more than anyone else's.

I get your point. But his ability to make tough shots while also attacking the rim will translate for sure. That's why he's a goner if Dwight is in Houston.

He could leave if he didn't really want to be here and didn't like it here. If there is no way he is walking away from all that money why doesn't Orlando just keep him there? He could leave Houston as easily as he could leave Orlando at the end of the season. If there was a guarantee that he wouldn't leave all that money on the table Orlando wouldn't trade him.

    Waaaaa waaaaaaa waaaaaaa........

Cry me a river why don't you. Poor little Knicks fan got his feeling hurt because the Big Bad Rockets stole one of your players. Go cry to mommy little one.

NYC has been abusing the salary structure for sports for a long time by over paying baseball and basketball players for years and now we as Rocket fans are going to listen to your preach to us about our team overspending? in the 3rd year of the Lin and Asik contracts when they only cost the Rockets a combined 16 million against the cap we will still 100 times more fiscally responsible then your precious little Knicks.

BTW, in the last year of Asiks contract, when he is only costing the Rockets 8 million a year, what if he averages 10 boards and 2 blocks a game while making playing elite defense? Would you still think of him as over paid? If so you must absolutely cringe at paying Tyson Chandler almost 15 million or Amare more than 23 million in the same year.

Enjoy watching your team wallow in mediocrity while living in luxury tax hell and massively over paying the likes of Melo and Amare.

If I'm not mistaken, we are paying them evenly over the three years...is this right?

Obviously, I know it hits the cap evenly but I heard on the radio that we'll be paying them like that also.

Good question for Bima or one of the capoligists but I think they get paid 5, 5.2, 14.9 and it only counts 8.2 against the cap each year.

It's cute how many (though certainly not all) of the Knicks and Bulls (and general NBA) fans don't understand the details... i.e. backloading was the only way to offer these contracts due to rules, our cap hits are even over the 3 years for both players

And you call "overpaying mid-tier players" abusing a system? If you really think it's overpaying, that's not abusing anything...you should think that's poor judgment on Morey's part and nothing more.

It doesn't really matter. The cap hits are even, and that's what counts.

If the money is paid out in a backloaded manner--all the better for the man signing the paychecks (Les)
