They are all asleep lol, I hope that Asik is a Rocket by tomorrow, that should expedite the whole Howard thing if Asik is the hold up.

I still think we wait the full 3 days to do anything. What if Noah tears his ACL playing hopscotch 2 days from now? Then Chicago matches Asik and we get caught with our pants down.

I feel like we know nothing about the date at this point. . . very odd. We have no knowledge that Chicago got it. All we know is Omer got taken out by Daryl and then he got walked to his door and tucked in by Mr. Alexander.

Bulls still have to accept the offer sheet, even if they do plan on letting him go. All nice and well that 'Asik is ours' but the process still has to play out. Still no confirmation that Chicago has received it yet.

    Edit: Or maybe not(?)

Yeah, this is stupid. The new CBA should have specified that the offer sheet is presented to the league office and it's the matching team's responsibility to go get it and match within three days from when the league receives it.

Whatever happened to email? That has a timestamp and everything. This dodging crap is bull. It defeats the purpose of shortening the decision time to 3 days.

It could be worse- the time limit to match used to be 7 days.

I can see an Asik for Monta Ellis and Larry Sanders trade developing at the trade deadline.

I doubt it. Monta Ellis is awful statistically. Very low efficiency, but puts up high numbers because he plays for a fast paced team. Not the type of player Morey likes.

    Hollinger's take

If the point is moot why are the Bulls avoiding the contract offered to Asik? What good does it do to act like a spoiled brat? I don't believe their stalling will impact what the Rockets will do next since the Magic will be waiting for the best offer anyways.

Yep, agreed. The only reason I could ever see Morey bringing in Ellis is because he's one of Dwight's buddies. There would have to be some behind the scenes crap going on.

I understand all that. But you have to keep statistics, especially efficiency statistics, in proper perspective. Do you realize that the best players Monta has every played alongside are Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Steph Curry, and David Lee?

I also understand he's a guy that passes very well, he creates a lot of havoc defensively with his quickness, one of the steals leaders in the NBA, and he's one of the quickest and fastest players in the NBA with the ability to light it up. He can get to the rim on anybody in the league and he gets to the foul line in crunch time. Yes, he's buds with Dwight. But he's a good player and would be a great fit alongside Dwight.

Don't want to derail this thread talking about Ellis though. My basic point here is that I don't see Asik being here for more than a season after we trade for Dwight. There won't be enough minutes for him. He's a one-way player. I suspect Morey eventually trades him back East somewhere for something that fits a lot better around Dwight. Monta was the first guy I thought of.

He passes well for a shooting guard, but put his assist numbers into the perspective of a point guard (Monta is 6'3" and struggles to defend wings) and they look pretty bad. That's the other reason I'm not a fan of Monta, he's a ball-dominating combo guard who doesn't play defense. He might be a decent fit with Dwight but he's a terrible fit with Jeremy Lin.

I also don't think Ellis is THAT great of a fit with Howard. I mean they'd be OK together but I think Dwight would play best with a pick & roll focused point guard dominating the ball like, well... Jeremy Lin (if he lives up to his potential).

This team does not need someone like Monta Ellis. Talk about terrible fit. Lin + Lamb is the best backcourt for Dwight. And Parsons develops into a lockdown defender with better 3 point shooting plus a stretch 4 like D Mo would be ideal front court mates for Dwight too.

Dude, Monta is a PnR player big time. He's not a point. He's an undersized 2 guard. And yes, he may struggle to defend bigger wings somewhat, but that's what Dwight is there for. Dwight's presence allows perimeter guys to overplay the passing lanes and get turnovers and force their opponents to have to cut behind them to beat them, which runs them straight into Dwight. Monta is great in transition, great at creating turnovers, and great at finishing. I'm not worried about a guy like that defensively. I'm more worried about teams packing in the zone on Dwight and forcing us to beat them from outside. We need to create fast break opportunities. Morey has already said we are going to be playing a lot faster. We gotta have guys that can race up and down and finish, and we need guys that can run PnR. Lin and Monta can both run PnR big time. Monta is a fit with Dwight.

Lamb is not going to be here. Face facts and get over it.
