Also, perspective. Lin did his thing after playing prior to starting in only 30 NBA games in his second year. Brooks did his thing after playing in 130 ish NBA games in his third year. Lin was never prepared to start. He did it overnight and succeeded. That is what differentiates the two.
Probably said many times already but I think Lin's going to be a very good fit for what McHale is doing on offense. McHale seems to like scoring point guards, which may be why Dragic had a stellar season while Lowry butted heads with him. Lin I think is more of the Dragic mold. That said, I'm not sure exactly what Lin's ceiling is, but I don't think he's ever going to be a top tier PG like Paul or Williams. No shame in that either.
What else does lin do? He's a terrible defender and a to machine. Is his 25 games better than that of lowry when he took over for brooks or when dragic took over for lowry? Its blown out of proportion because it was ny and the story. Not to mention, conditioning ur body for 82 games and expectations when people see u coming. Bruce bowen was talking last yr about how you don't even have time for scouting reports in a short season. If he does 14-6-44% fg, that's a good season for him.
A lot of what you said I disagree with. He isn't a terrible defender he is an average defender. His turnover rate is less than Rondo, Nash, Kidd. He does have to cut down his turnovers but this notion that it can't be fixed is blown out of proportion. Lin did his thing for 25 games. Do you seriously believe that teams just let him do whatever he felt like for 25 games and didn't bother scouting him especially with all the media hype? If teams did not have time to scout him because of the shortened season, why was Rose forcing him left all day, miami trapping him hard, Spurs/Celtics taking advantage of Amare's terrible pnr defense, Sixers forcing him to the foul line because they knew he could score etc. Also scouting goes both ways, Lin can scout other players too right.
So you're implying he doesn't turn the ball over a lot and is not a poor defender? I guess u will also tell me when chalmers started pressing him that he didn't struggle to get the ball across half court? I'm pretty sure you will also tell me none of this is his fault?
Guys who think Lin is a legit NBA player: Magic Kobe John Lucas Cousy Jerry West Steve Nash Clyde Frazier Hubie Brown I would say all these guys know a thing or two about basketball and what it takes to be successful.
This. Best analysis on Lin I've read. I think with him potentially being the main guy this coming season and his offseason training, I would not be surprised to see 20 pts and 7+ assist.
You are putting words in my mouth. I said he was an average defender not poor and not good, average. I said he needs to cut down the turnovers but I also said that other players turn the ball over more than he did. And yes he struggled against the Miami heat he had a bad game. Other players have had bad games against the heat. I am not going to crucify him for struggling against the heat for the rest of his life.
With all due respect, I'm a rocket fan but has followed Lin in every game he's played. He's not a terrible defender. Average when he was with D'antoni and above average after woodson the defense minded coach took over.
I can understand people doubting Jeremy Lin's 25-game sample size if they happened in the middle of his career and defied all his prior averages, but when they're at the beginning of his NBA career, why do people act as if they were preseason numbers or something in which teams weren't trying 100%? Teams draft 1-and-doners to be franchise players when their only track record are high school ball and maybe one good NCAA tournament (using rules that are different from the NBA's, mind you). Jeremy Lin has shown, at his first opportunity to do so, that he can at least occasionally play at a supremely elite level against the most elite competition in the world. Not even the likes of Kevin Durant or LeBron James could've said that upon their drafting.
He rebounds well, get steals, and draws more fouls (gets to the line more often) than Brooks. I would also argue that he has better decision making, though that remains to be sean over a whole season. He doesn't seem to overdribble on the perimeter like Brooks does.
Much of Brooks' early success was based on his phenomenal speed and athleticism. But you could tell he could face a large dropoff if he lost his quickness, and he needed to develop other elements of his game. Which IMO he hasn't. Lin's game is less based on his athleticism. With his size and skillset, he has the potential to develop his all-around game better than Brooks has.
Kyrie Irving played 11 college games and was a number 1 draft pick. How often are a players first 25 games there best 25 games. People seem to have forgotten this notion.
People on this board are bashing Larry Brown, truth is Larry Brown has forgotten more basketball than most of us will EVER know. He would coach circles around our current HC.
