I sincerely hope that you are on the payroll of Dwight's agent, or with the front office of the Lakers. At least that would give your posts a modicum of sense. With all due respect.

When you make a trade of a Franchise player like Howard you have to get something to get fans excited. Varejao is not that type of player. Yes he hustles and plays hard, but they will still have that if Big Baby Davis stays there, and also with Varajeo's contract that makes him look even worse. I think that is where Martin can that player in a possible trade. Don't get me wrong, Martin lost some luster after last year, but he can score the ball. Especially on a team that he is the "Man!" He will come in there and average 20+ and will give the Magic fans something to hang there hats on and get excited about this year before he is a FA.

OKC can't trade them their contracts are way too low, they'd have to gut
that team to even match Howard's contract which would mean trading
Harden Ibaka and Westbrook plus more, and then couldn't take bk any contracts...
That OKC tweet I saw was hilarious ...I was like o ya that's going to work
    cal wise lol;)
...and no clev has nothing but scrubs that ORL doesn't want, they want
future draft picks (from other teams that Howard isn't traded to, hence why we
went n got a bunch of others' draft picks!)
    We are only team left

Chris Webber had three years and $62 million left on his contract with Sacramento when he was traded to Philly in February 2005. Not even close to Dwight's situation.

Deron Williams, "It wasn't that I was unhappy, I was just shocked," Williams said. "It was very unexpected, when you don't hear any rumors than all of a sudden you're getting treatment from your teammates and you learn you just got traded there's an initial shock. Just didn't know what to think."

Most free agents aren't superstars with the likelihood of max contracts and therefore are relegated to pursuing the best deal they can wherever that may take them.

Such is the case for 90% of the players in the league. We're not talking about them. We're talking about an elite player. One of the top 5 in the league. He's required to fulfill his contractual obligation which he very nearly has done.

this is ridiculous, especially since Dwight has been changing his mind from day 1 to now. If he really wanted control over his destiny, he never would have opted into his contract.

and players get traded all the time, without their consent.

it shouldn't, and usually, it doesn't matter whether the player is a 'star' or not.

    you use the word, "unprecedented"

this is funny on so many levels. for one, you're either ignorant, or just not getting it.

Deron Williams got traded without his consent, do you think he wanted to go to New Jersey?

Chris Webber wasn't happy about getting traded from Golden State to the Kings.

you know what else is "unprecedented" ?

a player of Dwight Howard's Caliber OPTING IN.

that crap almost NEVER happens, and what makes it even funnier is that it was DWIGHT's CHOICE.

oh, Dwight Howard set a precedent alright, and in the process,

    it's made him infamous

So, in your mind, since Howard has only openly desired to play in Brooklyn, the Orlando GM should just give him away to the Nets? After all, Howard doesn't want to play anywhere but there - correct?

Also, you did not address anything about Howard living up to the NBA contract that he WILLINGLY signed and extended.

EDIT: part of living up to your contract is playing hard for teams you are traded to regardless if you like the destination or not (for the duration of that contract)

The Orlando GM has only ONE burden and that is to do what is best for the Magic. There is absolutely no sleaze involved. It would be more 'sleazy' for the Magic to NOT trade Howard this year, then NOT offer him a max contract next year and force him to sign for less than he could have made.

    EDIT:

Also, I have no idea if Howard has said he wants to play in Houston and I NEVER claimed he did, unlike you, claiming he does't want to. You also have not provided any quote directly from Howard saying he does NOT want to play in Houston and will refuse to sign an extension. The only quote I have ever seen directly attributed to Howard was his desire to explore free agency and NOT signing an extension with anyone except the Nets, which has nothing to do with him signing or not signing with the team he is traded to.

The bottom line is that the teams that Dwight wants to go to have no leverage. Miami had a ton of leverage because it had this thing called cap space. Lots and lots and lots and lots of cap space. NY had leverage because Melo wanted to go there and guess what they would have had if Denver didn't make that trade with them? Bingo, cap space. Without the requisite cap space to make a max offer the best the Lakers and Nets etc. can hope for is to put in the best bid in a trade.

I think Dwight gets traded to LA in a 3team deal with Orl/LA/Cle.The Magic will wait till Aug.5th and trade for Waiters/Zeller.

    Something like this.

    Orl trade: Dwight/Jrich/Qrich/Duhon
    LA trade: Bynum/Blake/Mcroberts/Ebanks
    Cle trade: Varejao/Zeller/Waiters/2 1rd picks

    Orl gets: Varejao/Zeller/Waiters/Ebanks/Mcroberts/2 1rd
    LA gets: Dwight/Duhon/Qrich
    Cle gets: Bynum/Jrich/Blake

@TonyMejiaNBA Bynum with LA, & Howard with Houston?" Or other way around. It's best for Magic if Lakers involved. More assets. Rockets ready.

Haha, CLE isn't getting involved. It's been reported multiple times talks with them were a smokescreen. They're not giving up Waiters/Zeller for Bynum, and even if they did, we could still offer more.

I have a hard time believing that Cleveland would trade 4 first round picks for Bynum. Especially including Waiters who looks like a player and especially since the future picks could very easily be lottery picks.

    CDave -

your line of reasoning has been reiterated by a lot of posters throughout this thread, so you are not alone. but the bottom line remains...

only 4 teams are going to have the available cap room to sign Howard to a max deal off the street:

    Houston
    Dallas
    Atlanta
    Cleveland

None of those are a major market the likes of LA or NY - wherein Howard would land a massive extension with Adidas (as has been reported to be the underlying motivation behind Howard's whining)

as far as money goes...read below:

People underestimate Rockets desire to turn Kevin Martin's expiring into major piece. Lakers prefer DH to Bynum. Best Magic deal comes soon.

the big kicker to the CLE angle is that Varejo is a big multi-year deal, which ORL has made clear they aren't interested in unless it is attached to a star-type player.(which I dont think anyone truly believes Varejo is)

"@Original_Gio: @Lakerholicz like we thought, D12 wont be w/Magic come camp- @TonyMejiaNBA" Houston or LA. Rockets facilitate either way.

I grow more convinced by the minute that Morey won't settle for Bynum. Hope I'm right.
