So, the Rockets should only get stars who would rather play in Houston than LA or Brooklyn?

The Nets did the same thing and it paid off for them. DWill admitted that he was about to leave for Dallas until the Johnson trade. Now they have their building block locked up and I think Dwight coming here would play out the same way.

Yeah but they moved to New York, an attractive destination..People forget everyone knew for a long time that the Nets were moving, Deron knew this as well.

They're supposed to make sure he wants to be there or that he is at least open to the proposition of being there.

Not deliberately place the guy in an untenable situation where the entire city of Houston hates on him twelve months from now when he disappoints everyone and decides to leave, the way the city of Cleveland hates on Lebron James for deciding to leave.

That's setting him up to be the bad guy. The Rocks have plenty of options to improve their team. They don't need this.

Before I duck out again, a Dwight Howard note: the Magic, I'm told, are hopeful that they can pull the trigger on a deal by early August (although I certainly couldn't tell you which one it might be). That being said, new GM Rob Hennigan - who I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time in Vegas - is proving to be very prudent in this process, meaning those hopes won't be realized if the deal simply isn't up to his standard's. The Magic's coaching search continues, too, and I'd be surprised at this point if the job doesn't ultimately go to San Antonio's Jacque Vaughn (though that's informed opinion, not reporting any imminent hiring).

    Early August. Hmmm...

    Motiejunas? :p

Ha don't read anything into that. Just speculation on my end.

You gotta do something in the off day time. I have some experience with Ilseworth outside of Orlando and a pretty good history of NBA players have lived there or have their permanent homes there, Penny, Shaq, Grant Hill etc.

There are four five of those exclusive enclaves around Orlando.

    Dmo would probably like Disneyworld.

Tony Mejia: "@kavan_allen: What do u mean, Asik variable? They can move him in Howard deal?" No, Jan 15 for him, too. Mean need for DM decreases w/Asik. about 18 minutes ago

The Decision special was in poor taste. Other than that, you're right.

Orlando sucks these players are 20-28 with millions. Orlandos night life is horrible and the city is small. Houston Is actually a great place to live if your young and have money. It's cheap, big, good food and a lot of shopping and places to go at night. I know I have said this before but a lot of athletes make Houston there home in the offseason. Our city or market is not the problem the problem is we don't have a Yao Ming or tmac here to recruit other big name players. Remember tmac scoring champ picked Houston to come play with YAO. We need Howard bottom line

    Asik makes Daryl Morey expendable?

Side note, Yao was 7'6, not 7'5.

I don't Dwight would be mad at Morey if Morey traded for him. Daryl would probably set up a meeting with him and tell him "Hey, we aren't going to force this extension on you, if you want to explore your options later, then do it." How could Howard be mad at that line of thinking? As long as the Rockets org. doesn't antagonize him to sign, I don't see why he would immediately have a distaste for the Rockets.

    Ah, I understand.

It's not "The Rockets shouldn't go after a top player in the league." It's "The Rocket should only go after top players who would rather be in Houston than Brooklyn or LA."

    That's a much better improvement.

that's the risk Houston and Daryl Morey are going to have to, and are attempting to take.

You are naive if you think that the Rockets have plenty of options to improve their team. As seen by last years team, that is the ceiling of having quality role players at every position, without having any bona-fide stars.

now, they have a potential star in Jeremy Lin, and a load of young, unproven players. I fear that this Rockets team is going to be the next Charlotte Bobcats.

I don't care how good Lin is, or how could he can be. Teams with a lot of rookie players don't win much, and Jeremy is going to find out the hard way.

For Jeremy, i like that he can grow his game, but I don't think it's going to translate to many wins--especially in the near future.

You miss the point. Dwight was 7 years in Orlando. He even gave them an additional year.

He's more than lived up to his end of the bargain with them. He's earned his right to be able to play wherever he likes in a year. Exiling him to a destination that makes his ultimate departure unnecessarily difficult is treatment he doesn't deserve.

Orlando has a right to get value in return. It's the job of the general manager though to accomplish BOTH objectives and it doesn't matter if it's really hard or a lead pipe cinch.

The Rocks making themselves willing participants in something like this just share in the sleaze.

Again I'm assuming that the reports that Howard does not or is not willing to consider Houston, are accurate. If it turns out they're not, then I beg the pardon of everyone on the message board.

Since when has Houston been a hotspot for marquee free-agents? the only way Houston can get a star is if they draft him or they trade for him.

    Ante up, son.

Daryl Morey is trying to hit a home run, it would be foul if he went into this season with just Jeremy Lin and a bevy of young, unproven rookies.

Either let DMo go and keep Lamb and Jones. Or let Lamb and Jones go, while keeping DMo and white.
