I think Johnson is depth in case that a trade for Howard of Bynum depletes the position.

I figure that Patterson, Morris, Jones, and White have a lot more value than Johnson. Morey might just be preparing to obtain talent for the impending trades.

Would it be plausible to ship Asik during a Howard trade?

The Rockets roster looks a lot different now than when this contract was agreed to. Not sure if that's good or bad.

Different scenario. If Bulls match Asik they can't trade him for six months. Also they would have issues trading him due to the extremely large year three payment. So many things can change between now and December that I really doubt they are looking for trade partners for Asik at this time.

One different thought about your post. As far as actual cash, the $15M paid in the last year is atually is a deferral of about $3M he would normally be paid in years 1 and 2 that were deferred just to make the contract more punitve if the Bulls matched, so the large number in the last year cold actually be viewed as a benefit the team receiveing him as long as they get him this year or if the Rockets also send some cash to equalize the portion of the year they held him. If you were referrign to the cap hit, Asuic's salary cap number for the Rockets (about $8.3M?) is his salary cap number for the team recieving him, so no trade problem regarding his cap number. The only team that would have a $15 M cap number in year 3 woudl be the Bulls and any team the Bulls traded him to. I wonder if the League and CBA will close this gaping loop hope before next year.

In case this isn't clear, I meant $3M in each of years 1 and 2 ($6M total) is actually money that sould normally be paid earlier but is deferred.

I hope that is true. It has taken too long to be in this situation. Cap space with good young tradeable talent.

Are the Bulls a part of the CAA too? A vendetta against the Rockets for the Jeremy Lin fiasco?

Maybe a noob question but why are some free agents not able to be traded for a while , how is it different then the sign and trade ?

A sign and trade is a specifically negotiated and very limited mechanism enumerated in the CBA as a way to allow teams to get something back when their FA's leave (it also give free agents an opportunity to go to teams that don't have cap room, of course, which is why it works for both teams and players). There are very specific rules about how it has to go down. For instance, a team can't sign a player under a sign and trade, and then change their mind and not trade them.

I believe when the contract is signed, there is very specific language in the contract listing the details of the sign and trade transaction under sign and trade rules. If this isn't in the contract, then it is assumed you are signing a player to keep them, and normal rules apply.

We are not getting Dwight,if anything we get Bynum. We would be pretty foolish to trade for a guy who already said he would not resign with us.Bynum at least is a guy who would consider resigning with us.We trade for Dwight he will walk to Dallas and play with Dirk/Collison/Mayo/Marion next year.

Dwight won't sign an extension with anyone when he can let the contract expire, and sign a new one with the same team for about 40 million dollars more.
