What are the Rockets supposed to do CDave? Not go after a top player in the league and not improve their roster?!

This CDave guy is a Lakers fan. Not sure why I am(we are) bothering with him.

Magic will take the best deal for THEM. If that happens to be Houston, so be it. If Dwight wants to walk next summer, he'll have that right as a FA. Until then, he's under Magic(or [new team]) control. Right now, he has no one to blame but himself. He opted in because of 'loyalty' or some other bull****.

Why is Dwight scared of being traded to the Rockets? Because he knows we'll call his bluff and he'll be forced to sign a contract here. He wants to be traded to Brooklyn or LA because he wants to be in a big market. If he is traded here, he has NO CHANCE to get to a big market because he knows we won't play ball. Furthermore, even if we DID play ball, he would be leaving a ton of money on the table, which he already demonstrated he is NOT willing to do when he picked up his player option.

That's not a choice. Dwight has already said neither of those are sufficient.

Dwight's agent will say, "Do as you will then and ship Dwight off to Houston. I'm going to make it my business to see to it that you and Morey get paid back for this in spades."

If I'm Dwight I may not even show up for the press conference in Houston following the trade.

Both sides can play at this game you know.

Dwight isn't a free agent. He has no choice.

I think because todays superstars look at Houston as dull, boring, country and hot. That's just the perception people have on Texas so they rather go to NY or LA

Dwight won't do that, Lakers homer. If he does, he's going to be in a TOUGH spot come next offseason. He can't sign in LA. He can't sign in Brooklyn, or New York. He's going to leave $30M on the table to go to a city he doesn't want to be in anyway? Yeah, right.

    In the end, money talks.

Lol, Dwight is likely to fire his agent after this all goes down.

And Morey is doing what is in his best interest, no one has any reason to be mad at him. He's not in charge of this decision.

If Dwight was so scared of being seen a disloyal villain, I doubt he comes here and throws this tantrum you're predicting.

I'm concerned about Bynum's knees as well, and after reading about the shape they are in, and the treatment he's getting, I want no part of him. I wouldn't be surprised if Morey doesn't want to touch him. In fact, IMO, Morey wants Howard, and if he can't get him, but is willing to get in on a 3-way with LA and the Magic, it wouldn't shock me if Gasol came to the Rockets, we toss in picks, and perhaps Patterson and Morris, and keep all 4 of our rookies, and also keep Parsons. Gasol would be that "name" Alexander desires, with an expiring contract after this season (he has 2 years left on his deal), we keep our young talent, and we go forward from there. That assumes that Bynum agrees to a contract with Orlando.

I'd rather have Howard, but if we can't get him, then stand pat, or possibly put up with Gasol, who's still a top talent at the 4/5, and to Hell with Bynum and his wrecked knees.

Interesting, but with these reports of Kobe saying "Gasol is here as long as I am" I'm not sure I'm seeing it. I think the Lakers like the Kobe/Nash/Gasol big three and are not desperate to make a deal here.

I honestly think Morey is all in on Dwight. I think it gets done unless a mystery team swoops in OR Dwight agrees to extend for 3 yrs in ORL (which I seriously doubt).

Tony Soprano tactics don't work in the real world, guy. No agent (NONE) would ever speak to a GM like that; for one, it's beyond immature....moreover, they'll very likely still have to work together in the future. You're clueless.

LMAO @ "both sides can play this game"

    Fixed it for you.

I'm glad you and jopatmc aren't in the negotiation table for the Rockets, we would get raped if you two were.

I think that if the Lakers were getting Dwight Howard, Bryant would pat Gasol on the back and wish him well.

Right. Dwight Howard is literally going to pull a move which would make the Decision and anything Vince Carter ever did look mature and intelligent.

There's nothing wrong with playing in Houston. It's a great sports town. If Howard was okay with it, Terrific! Otherwise it's an unprecedented, bad faith move. That would true no matter what teams were involved (Lakers or anyone else). I don't want Dwight on the Lakers if he wants to be in Brooklyn or somewhere else.

Even you're unable to describe the transaction in favorable terms, "he's under Magic or new team control," "he has no one to blame but himself."

Morey may be risking the reputation of the Rocks franchise and everybody is watching.

You don't think Morey is going all in?

*Trades Budinger for a mid 1st
*Trades Lowry for one lottery pick ~10 at best
    *Amnesties Scola
    *Lets Dragic walk for nothing
*SnTs Lee for scraps instead of bringing him back
*SnTs Camby for scraps instead instead of bringing him back

This is a dude selling assets for 75 cents on the dollar and letting guys walk for nothing or almost nothing because cap space and assets specifically desirable in trades are PRECIOUS to him right now. If he just wanted to rebuild he wouldn't be doing it in a massive rush and getting questionable value back for his parts. Why do you think people were so upset early in the offseason?

Yes, he can legitimately threaten walking away in negotiations and rebuilding. But he knows, and everyone knows, that the way he conducted business it will have been a massive loss of value to do so.

He's going incredibly hard after Dwight and you know it. You guys may have gotten attached to our youngs but almost nobody is going to be untouchable to get this deal done.

Dwight won't have a choice of big market teams like NY or LA, he'll be about the money.

Who are some of these franchises that are hauling in big-time free agents with their reputations for loyalty?

The world champion Miami Heat, who flushed basically everyone on their roster to make way for James and Bosh?

The New York Knicks, who flushed everyone of value to get Melo? And didn't match Lin for, well, nobody knows why?

Maybe it's the Celtics, who have shuffled basically their entire roster other than the Big Three, who they shuffled their roster to acquire in the first place?

Or perhaps the Lakers, who have been trying to trade franchise cornerstones Gasol and Bynum since last year, the same year they traded vet point guard Fisher for junk?

Come on. This is silly. We're an unattractive free agent destination, but it's not because of some nebulous lack of 'loyalty' - it's because we don't have superstars to join and we're not a flashy destination city. The suggestion that Dwight and CP3 would want to come here if only Morey weren't so crafty and mean is baseless.

Yes, there are two paths you can go by

be a glamour city and pay for Super Stars
build through the draft like OKC

Orlando has to build thought the draft.
(though I actually don't know why, Orlando is a good place to live, no State taxes, fishing and golf, marketing with Disney or Universal, good winter weather???)

We have the picks and the young assets to kick start the rebuild. And the expiring contract to clear space for picking up pieces like Asik when they can.

    We've got what Orlando needs.
    Orlando has what we want.

On Montiejunas/Lamb, it's 1a and 1b. I think Dmo would be the more desired player for Orlando because he replaces Dwight (sorta) and we know Martin will be in the deal to make the money work. We might can limit the 2012 class traded to just Jones though if the Magic do in fact value Morris.

LOL you think NBA players are thinking, "oh, there's great fishing and golf, I'd love to sign in Orlando!" ??

It's all about the marketing dollars and the perception of other NBA players and Hollywood-type elites. LA, New York, Miami. That's it. Those are this country's glamour cities, that's where players are going to go.
