Supposedly he left money on the table, so they actually got him on a deal. Hill has height, is passable on offense and defense, and he's only 24. He's still in the "he has potential, just needs to realize it" point in his career, and playing with Nash just might get him past that. Lakers pretty much win on this signing, especially when your backups were McRoberts & Murphy.
who cares if hes 7 feet. Hes effective. THe Lakers weakness is pick & Roll defense and he addresses it
fakers would gladly pay asik $8M per and forget the name jordan hill if they had a chance. hill is a glaring liability on D and widely inconsistent offensively and rebounding.
Says a member who just joined Clutch Fans in March and probably didn't keep up with Jordan Hill when he played for us...
LOL WTF are you talking about? 4M for a player of Hill's caliber is dirt cheap. He play spot minute at C, and is actually very solid at PF. Hill has some IQ issues, but if it weren't for that he'd be a rising star in the NBA, he's already an above average rebounder, decent D and has a nice developing face up game. If we weren't so stacked at the PF position (LOL @8 pFs) I'd love to lock him up at 8M for 2 years.
LOL @ some of the posters here with no concept of money. Most of you guys think Melo or Amare or Gay are good value at 23M then b**** about Hill getting paid 4M a year. Do you know what the average rookie salary for a lottery pick is? Its 3M a year, and IIRC the veteran minimum is around that value as well. Hill's making just 1M a year more than his rookie scale contract, and you guys are still complaining about it? That's dirt cheap! FYI other teams have Kwame Brown or Andris Biedrins making like 9-11M a year. Comparing it to Asik's contract, I'm not sure you can compare them because while Hill would be a really good backup/projected starter if he develop, Hill at the end of the day is still only a PF, and those guys are really common. Asik OTH is a real center, not only that he proved himself as one of the best defensive and rebounding Cs in the league given his limited minutes. You gotta pay a premium for the C spot he could fill and the performance he's displayed.
Jordan Hill at $4M per is a great pick-up for the Lakers. Huge impact off of the bench for them. Better than any PFs on the Rockets roster for the time being.
Difference between Asik and Hill is, Asik is one of the best defensive centers in the NBA, and Hill is one of the worst.
