After Stern vetoed the Gasol deal, Martin said "Daryl has shown his cards", and basically passive aggressively implied that he doesn't really like not knowing if he'll be traded or not. He had another comment the year before about telling Morey that players don't like being treated like assets I believe. That's it. He got along with all the players, never said anything negative even when he was hurt and alienated, and didn't throw a fit when McHale would pull him. If anything, looking over everything I just typed makes me feel like he is more of a leader than I initially thought. If the Dwight deal goes down, I really hope Orlando flips him to Minny for a reunion with Adelman.
God I hope not. McHale and Morey will get fired and we'll have a completely new roster next year because all of our players demanded trades!
Parsons and Lin, unless Martin suddenly becomes a leader and is ready to carry the team on his back. He can't be the leader and have wildly inconsistent shooting nights from one game to the next like last year.
Isn't the point guard who the offense runs through pretty much the captain on the court? I guess Parsons seems good for that role off the court.
Well most likely it is Parsons that will be this team's captain. He mentioned it on the interviewed that he will take part of this team's leadership role now that most of the last year vet's were gone. He said both him and Patterson are going to filled that role of being the captain for all the young players. So its Parsons and Patterson. Chandler Parsons seems to be the perfect candidate to represent this team.
That doesn't matter as far as being a captain, two of our previous Captains from previous seasons before they were moved were Shane Battier and Chuck Hayes.
It should be Lin because: A) He's the one with the ball in his hands most of the time in McHale's offense and should direct the offense. Giving him the captain role forces him to lead by example and be vocal which is what he should be in a young team like this. B) It gives him a confidence boost C) He's smart and pretty mature for his age Parsons I'm not too sure about, immaturity but most of all lack of confidence
I remember those two comments on Morey, and never thought there was anything wrong with them. I too believe that Martin's leadership capabilities are under estimated.
Parsons, and I understand that people are apprehensive to Lin (as a newly acquired player) becoming team captain, but I think it would be best for team growth + organization if the point guard is also a captain. So I vote Parsons + Lin co-captains.
I agree. I think both would do a good job. I think most likely it will be the two of them which probably explains why Parsons (aside from being Lin's good friend) took Lin out to dinner and showed him around town. Also Parsons was at the press conference. In regards to Lin sharing that duty even though he is a newly acquired if you look in Lin's past he can lead.He was captain of his HS team and led them to a 33-1 record. Captain of his Harvard Team and made them better and better every year he played. He is a natural leader on the floor and I think his style of play and character just galvanizes his teammates and encourages them to step up there games. I think the Rockets may over achieve this year (not like Championship overachieve but just win a lot more games than people expected). Fans should be excited.
