Give up, the NRA has won. Many people believe that the answer is more guns even those of the automatic sort, not less. Anecdotally, I know a guy working at a Houston gun range who told me that Obama's election has been wondrous for their business. I'd guess that until we have a white moderate Republican in office who is willing to buck the NRA, no restrictions on guns will ever get passed at a national level.
This is a useless issue to discuss, nothing will be done within this century, unless there are more than 10 such incidents everyday.
It's a backwards concept about NEEDING assault rifles and heavy arms to "protect" oneself. If the founders of this country were here today, they would immediately revoke the 2nd amendment in the constitution and replace it with something that applies to the modern era. This is just as backwards as the whole "it's a sin to draw Prophet Muhammad" concept in Islam. It was put in place a long long time ago to prevent people from worshiping the Prophet as a deity and drawing photos of him, making statues of him, etc.
Using a tragedy to promote your political agenda is sick. Gun control is a suicidal political ambition. Feel free to push it and lose the elections over it. We are organized, easily mobilized and highly funded. We also all turn into single issue voters when our fundamental rights are threatened.
You're right. Screw gun laws. Why shouldn't every mentally challenged and disturbed citizen of the United States be able to own deadly weaponry? Nobody here is calling for the banning of guns. However there is an innate problem in a system where mentally disturbed people are able to get their hands on riot gear, bulletproof vests, shotguns, and assault rifles with absolute ease. Once again, I reiterate, nobody here is calling for an outright banning of guns for citizens...
Call for whatever you want. You won't win the debate and you certainly won't win politically. Also starting the discussion after this tragedy starts makes it opportunistic.
Its a reaction to an event. Its not using the event as a catapult. Not sure why you're getting so worked up over nothing. I'm not advocating anything other than let's make sure we don't hand out guns to you know... DANGEROUS PEOPLE?
If the gunman didn't have guns, he could have easily made a bomb and tossed it in the theatre. Should we eliminate copper wire and batteries and nitrate and gunpowder too?
Once again, nobody here is calling for the BANNING of guns. Let the sane people get however many guns they want. Make it impossible for anyone with a criminal record or mental disorder to own one and mandate that psychological evaluations and background checks be mandatory every time you want to buy a gun.

These are the same people that were vehemently against background checks and waiting periods too. They're fanatics, and he's right, it's political suicide for any rational Republican to come out in favor of any sort of gun control.
