John Hollinger: Hearing C Lee deal is more like 4.6M to start. Celtics paying Pavlovic's salary for Blazers and threw Portland a 2nd.
I hate to see him go, and I hate to get back essentially peanuts in return for him, but it makes sense that he left and I suppose a 2nd rounder from Charlotte is better than nothing.
2nd rounder from charlotte is essentially a late 1st round pick + the contract isnt guaranteed good move
My guess is, that was his price . . . TO PLAY FOR THE BOSTON CELTICS. Both based on (a) the Celtics' salary cap constraints and (b) the winning situation in Boston, Lee was willing to take less money to play for the Celtics. I'd imagine that, had he re-signed with Houston, he'd be doing so for a lot more money.
This is precisely why Morey is willing to trade for Dwight without an extension. Even if he decides to leave at or before the end of the season we can facilitate the sign and trade.
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo Guard Courtney Lee lands a four-year, $21.5 million fully guaranteed deal from the Celtics in sign and trade deal, source tells Y! Sports.
That is a great contract for the Celtics. That is now one of the best value contracts in the entire league.
Can anyone clarify the details? Do we get the 2nd from Charlotte and Portland gets a 2nd from Boston? or only Portland gets a 2nd rounder? It's pretty vague so far...
Yeah I think we still are getting the Charlotte pick. Deal is apparently done but no final confirmation of the details(?). I'm assuming(and I could be wrong): Boston - Lee Blazers - Pavlovic(possible 2nd rd pick?) Rockets - Moore, Williams, Johnson, 2nd rd pick
yes. some players will actually take less money to play on a contending team, in a great city, for a blue-chip franchise, for a coach they really like. Dwight? ....oh, no chance he bolts. No way he walks away from our money I'm kidding on the level, but i really do think there's a decent chance Dwight leaves Houston high and dry, and just like i wouldn't be so bold as to say there is NO way he'd resign with us, i think it's equally irrational to say there is NO way he'd leave our money on the table ...or at least pull a Lebron. Unfortunately there are a lot of clutchfans members that love to post things with absolute certainty, of which, they really can't be certain.
agreed...really solid contract for a excellent yet undersized 2 guard...Loved Courtney lee here in Houston...said to see him go to Boston...
