So it was Les idea to get Lin. I wonder if it was his decision not to sign Dragic and trade Lowry? I like Lin but to get rid of 2 established PGs to pursue the kid is Linsanity.

I remember that game, looked like a Toronto win. The Knicks closed a 10 point deficit late in the 4th. On that tying FG Lin pump faked Kleiza drove by him and put up a floater over Amir Johnson who fouled him. Lin hit the FT to tie the game.

And the game winner by Lin, pure theater, Knicks get an offensive RB with about 15 secs left. Lin has the ball looks over to D'Antoni to see if he wants to call a TO to call a play. D'Antoni waves to signal run the play. Lin starts dribbling at the top of the 3 point circle, Calderon gives Lin about 8 ft. of room respecting his drive. Lin dribbles the clock down to about 3 secs. Lin launches a 3 uncontested by Calderon because he gave Lin too much space. The shot goes in and despite the game being in Toronto the building erupts with cheers.

Les couldn't help notice the packed arena, all the vaLINtine and Linsanity signs, the palpable excitement in the arena all for a kid starting his 6th NBA game. Lin may duplicate that Toronto game, fill the Toyota Center and make Les a ton of money, I just don't think you let go of 2 capable PGs to get him.

Ironically, if stern hadn't vetoed the gasol trade, it would have happened after lowry got sick. Albeit no one would have cared, since it wasn't new york. Eye roll...

if we hadn't cut Lin, wouldn't some other team offer him a poison pill contract we couldn't match?

Lots of IFs .... Linsanity in NY wouldn't have happened.....
I still think Lin could have been a solid bench player here, maybe even play the same way Gogi did.

Agree completely. People keep forgetting about this. Also no training camp so coaches didn't have nOrmal time to assess fringe players. Morey had to trust coaching staff too.

Who cares? A boss gets mad at his employee when he doesn't do his job.

Why no one sees the blessing in disguise is beyond me.

If things did not happen the way they did, Lin would not have had the stage to show his skills and would have been wasting away here.

Also... That confidence element of our character is an amazing thing. Lin looks genuinly happy here now and I think he's going to be excited to watch develop.

There would have been no 'Rise of Lin' if he had stayed in Houston last season.

I think he saw that Lin was demonstrating that he had the missing element of what could have been another Yao effect for the Rockets....he could play.

Les probably already knew of the potential of Lin from a business perspective, but he left it up to Morey to determine if Lin had the other ingredient....can he captivate on the court?

Waiving Lin, Morey answered that question, but he was obviously wrong. And that drove Les bonkers.

Love It!!! We have an owner that feels just like a fan...but he stays oout of the way of his staff...even when they make the wrong decision.

I am sure most owners are like that, especially with billions on the line. And actually, that's kind of sweet to have an owner who actually watches the games.

This has been true for a long time; frankly Leslie has a hint of the ol DaDakota (Margrave?) in him in that it takes jingling of keys to divert his attention to a bright shiny thing. It doensn't need to be said that Linsanity wouldn't have happened in Houston last year under almost any foreseeable set of circumstances since we had Lowrysanity and Goransanity.

The best example is when he demanded that Van Gundy "play more Phoenix-like" in their little falling out - so basically focusing on form over substance because he wanted the D'Antoni style buzz.

This of course came crashing down to earth when even the more Phoenix-like Rick Adelman found that you can't play Phoenix like when your team is built around a 7-6 300lb Brahma bull with gimpy legs..and the Rockets played the same plodding pace they did under JVG.

a few of us oldtimers here were also furious when lin got cut, after watching him show game in the preseason. in fact in his limited time, he had outplayed dragic those games and there was thought he could be first PG off the bench..

I feel for Morey; it had to be awkward to be on the other end of what sounds like a tantrum by your billionaire boss.

If we hadn't cut Lin, he probably wouldn't have gotten much playing time.
