Don't be so confident yet. Jeremy may just prove you wrong. Something along the line of a 20/8 average while leading the team to playoffs is enough to justify a 15m salary IMO.
I agree with Clutch. I really think Morey is a genius, because its seems like the rockets are going to tank next season (which I dont like) but they still going to sell a lot of tickets and a lot of jerseys, because they brought jeremy lin. unless the rockets get dwight (which is very unlikely), this team is going to be top 10 in lottery.
which is exactly what Clutch said in the quote. So, I take the comments here about Clutch's quote to mean they think his basketball performance part of the quote is in question.
Doesn't mean you have to go out there in the media and tell everyone that Lin is just a gimmick to sell tickets and lure free agents. Lol. Not to mention our salary cap will only get hit 8.3 mil per season. Sure he'll get paid by Les that amount in 2014-15, but that is Les's problem. As far as his impact on the team? Expect the type of production from a 8.3mil guy and we'll (hopefully) be satisfied. From what I've seen, my conservative prediction for someone like Jeremy would be 16/8. That sounds about on par for someone impacting our salary only 8.3mil a season. For comparison Rodney Stuckey is making nearly the same amount per season and he's averaging 14/3. Devin Harris 11/5. Jameer 12/6. John Wall 16/8. Andre Miller 10/7. Felton 12/7. Mo Williams 13/3. I'd say the minimum he should be averaging for that amount of money would be 10/6. If he drops below that, then yeah he'd be overpaid.
Lin is making less per year than Dragic AND he has one less year. Both are int he market that offers the least value: ie not a rookie scale and not a max player with artificial ceiling. We didn't give up talent for him, we are only giving up 8/58million in cap space. Talking about the final year in a bubble is biased because 5/5/15 is financially BETTER than 8.3/8.3/8.3 Give me a 6 million dollar interest free loan any day of the freaking week. If I had a sports franchise I would love to setup all my contracts like this.
Not sure why everyone seems to be so positive that Lin won't be worth 8.3 a year....it's like everyone has taken the defensive/almost apologetic stance that we mostly did it for the fans and money. The fact of the matter is, it is within the realm of possibility he could outplay that contract. Is it more likely he doesn't live up to the contract that outplay it? Probably. But that is subjective. The contract in of itself is not insane and frankly lines up well with his output while healthy. Sure we took a risk by assuming he can play at that 30-game explosion level for 3 years....but that is mitigated by the influx of cash to cover the salary (not to mention the indirect benefits of more exposure). But I'd sure like it if people would stop bringing that up first....it is secondary to the idea that we took a "risk" on a low sample extrapolating because we could and quite frankly, needed to.
Nobody knows what will happen. Lin definitely showed potential and he definitely showed weaknesses. I don't think he said anything wrong, everyone who saw him play has to know he has faults. It's not like we were watching Magic Johnson or Chris Paul out there. The Lin I saw whipped Derek Fisher is the same Lin I saw got destroyed by Deron Williams. I think some of the Lin fans here, you know who you are, don't want to hear any doubts during this time of excitement.
If Lin can cut down his TO ratio this year, next year, year after that and 2014-2015. he will be worth pay $15 million!!
I never saw Lin play a single minute until preseason last year. If he can be ever a serviceable starter he is worth 8.3/yr for 3 years. Morey obviously feels he is more easily traded than Dragic with a player option. The best thing is we didn't trade a single asset for him. Great deal all around. We have to hit the salary floor somehow.
