quite surprised so many people are putting melo on their list. What does he do other than score, and does he even do it that efficiently? To put Melo in perspective, he averaged 23ppg, 6rpg and 3.5 apg, and shot 43% from the field. Sounds pretty good, but in comparison, Monta Ellis scored 22ppg, to go with 6apg and 3.5 rpg, and also shot 43%. They have near identical #s, and neither is an impact player defensively, so does this mean you'd also consider Ellis a top 10 player, or are you just over-rating a guy who happens to be on ESPN a lot?
Strange you say this This is what sparked this thread I was trying to decide if MELO was a Top 10 Player in the league Let me say this: I thought the world of Melo coming out of Syracuse I figured . . .he dominated college students. . Lebron Dominate high schoolers So . . . He should be AT LEAST as LeBron I was VERY wrong He is basically Bernard King without the Defense He seems so passive Reminds me of TMAC . . he will get his stats but . . . something is missing Rocket River
I'm with you until the tmac part - McGrady was a player with adept passing ability, and the length to be a difference maker defensively. Now granted, he didn't use that length a lot, but he at least could - that's somewhere where Melo lacks. McGrady worked to create for his teammates, whereas Anthony really just creates for himself.
Actually, you have a great point, but again I know this sounds cliched . . . Melo wins more games and at least gets his teams to the playoffs. For all of his faults and possible ball-hogging, Melo can win you some really tough games. He was the single biggest reason that might have kept the Knicks from getting obliterated in the last two playoff series. He's one of the toughest players in the league to guard (that's not coming from me, but actual NBA players). Ellis is also alot more containable than Melo, being undersized shooting guard. Melo is a good mid-range shooter and a bulldozer in the paint. I've rarely seen one player consistently slow him down. Moreover, this year was not a good measure for his statistic, considering it was shortened season and he was injured a bit. Though, the team was sputtering a bit without him (beyond the Linsanity period). While in 2010-11, he literally brought the Knicks back from the brink of being in the lottery, yet again. Over his career, he averages 5 more ppg than Ellis with a slightly worse FG%, but has a better FT%.
Kevin Mchale....oh sorry wrong meeting LBJ Howard Durant Kobe Duncan Rose Parker Paul Love Rondo Hakeem Olajuwon num. 1 bc he teaches these ballers
LeBron James Kevin Durant Chris Paul Dwight Howard Kobe Bryant Tony Parker Kevin Love Russell Westbrook Andrew Bynum Blake Griffin
I'm pretty shocked to see so many people putting Rondo on their list. Serious question, would you all say he's better than Rose/Deron/Kyrie Irving? Edit with list: Lebron Durant Love Paul D. Will Bynum Wade Aldridge Kobe Derrick Rose
LeBron James Dwight Howard Kevin Durant Kevin Love Deron Williams CP3 Rondo Bynum LaMarcus Aldridge Kyrie Irving key omissions: Wade, Kobe, Rose I think Wade will continue to be content with LeBron gets his. I think Kobe will continue to show decline. I think Rose will have a hard time coming back from injury this year.
Rondo is the 3rd best PG in the game behind Deron Williams and CP3 IMO. He's the best defender at the PG position in my opinion. He always steps up huge when the games matter the most.. it seems as if he averages a tripple double every time the playoffs roll around. He makes his teammates better. He's carried that old ass Celtics team the last few years and he's the engine that made that team go. He's a true pass first shoot second point guard. Has excellent vision, super unarthadox (can jump off either foot and finish with either hand). The dude is probably the feistest player in the league and the ultimate gamer. If you told Rondo to go out and score 20 points he'll get you 30 even with a broke jumper. If you told him you need 10 assists he'll get 15. If the big guys are out and or in foul trouble and you needed him to grab 10 boards. He'll get you 15. If you told him to get at least 2 steals he will get you 5. My point is he can do it all. I'm a firm believer that if Rondo and Westbrook traded places Rondo would provide the better chance of winning a Championship. If Rondo was on a young team without the "big 3 now 2". Say, maybe the Cavs for example you would truly see him put up insane stats and still show that he can make guys around him better.
He's definitely better than Rose given Rose's injury and Irving? Irving? Is that serious? Irving won't be a top 5 PG next year, much less a top 10 player. I'm more confused by the people who've put up Aldridge. 20-9 is nice, but not top 10 level, and I'd say Love, Dirk, and perhaps even Griffin and Garnett are better PFs.
And no, Rondo is not a top 10 player. May not even be a top 20 player. There are at least four point guards better than Rondo, for that matter.
Kevin Durant Lebron James Derrick Rose (when healthy) Chris Paul Dwight Howard Russell Westbrook Kevin Love Blake Griffin Deron Williams
Actually, I take that back. There aren't four point guards better than Rondo. There are six. CP3 Rose Westbrook D-Will Parker Nash
