This. Les deserves much more respect as an owner. Most owners are stingy when it comes to paying a little extra to secure a star, most would rather tank a season while spending the least amount on players

    I would go for N.Robinson, S.Brown, H.Whiteside, R.Turiaf and maybe J.Hill

Howard has been a "dominant center" the past few years but it still hasnt gotten his team any rings

    McHale wont.

He's better on TV than he was as a GM or coach.

They need to bring in a young coach as well if McHale ever bolts...

    Mario Elie maybe?

This season they should let the kids play...run and gun it all season long....exciting ball....even if they lose a ton, at least the games will be fun to watch....get one more piece in the draft next year along with signing best FA available next season if possible and then blast off in 2014.

    (PTs/Assists/Reb/Stls/TO's/FG%)
    Goran Dragic:
    11.7/5.3/2.5/1.3/2.4/46%

    Jeremy Lin:
    14.6/6.2/1.6/3.6/45%

Which part is the "far more impressive part"?
I'm not arguing whos better or worse, I just don't see the big difference you see...

Okay I may have miss spoken in my original post. On average, teams more often then not get the better player and at the higher pick. But I still think to limit a player based on his draft position is just dumb.

All I'm saying is that being a top 5 pick is not necessarily a requirement to be a star.Even though most stars were top 5 picks. I think this apply's specially in deep drafts, like 2012, that are completely erratic and top 10 talents can drop late in the first round. Which I believe is the case with each one of our rooks.

To put it simply. I believe Jeremy Lamb is a better talent the Bradley Beal(3rd overall) and Dion Waiters(4th overall). I also believe Donatas Motiejunas is a better talent then Enes Kanter(3rd overall) or Jan Vesely(6th overall). IMO, if each is given proper time to develop, Motiejunas and Lamb can become stars.

I don't really understand this way of thinking. On yeah, we need more stars to compete. More stars!!!!

Fact is stars are made in the playoffs, not traded for half-price on the bargain bin. You need more than talent to win a championship ring, you need focus, determination and will to succeed. You can't have that by just trading for someone who doesn't want to be here, "Dominant" center or not.

If Howard came in here saying the same things as Lin, if he said "Thank you so much Houston for giving me a chance to rebuild anew, I'm grateful for the opportunity and am looking forward to slamming down oops with my (new) BFF Jeremy Lin" then I would be all over it like white on rice. The Howard I know is capable of dominating the league and terrorizing roster everywhere, I know he can work with Mchale and bring this team to contender status. But he's not saying that, he's injured and messed up and vowing its Brooklyn or bust for him. You think that dude will bring us anywhere? You think mental midgets can be franchise cornerstones for contending teams? We're not going anywhere with a pouting Howard, even if he decides he can't say no to 50M and stays here long term.

Let Asik, Lin and the young guns loose. Who knows, one of these guys might be the superstar we're looking for. Certainly beats trying to trade for a diva coming off injury who doesn't want to be here.

I'm starting to agree with you; ...who am i kidding; i agree with you. Personally, i'd rather have a committed Bynum than a pouting Howard, for the package being talked about, but i don't want to do a 3-way where LA gets the best player and gives up the least.

    What i'd like to do:

Sign and trade Lee for a 1st round pick. Go into the season with Asik, Lin, K-mart, Pat, Chandler, and our rookies. Trade Martin at the deadline for a good draft pick. end the year with our own good lotto pick. Then package picks to get a franchise player in the draft, or use picks to trade for a star. Then go after Bynum or another max free agent next offseason with our cap space.

If we hold off on Dwight this year, we will be rewarded with a good draft pick, while still being plenty entertained watching all of our young talent develop.

    TO pick +
    Houston Pick +
Dallas Pick = chance for a franchise player
cap-space = chance to sign a max player
add that to Lin, D-Mo, and Lamb = CONTENDER!

I had never thought of TV exposure helping attract more free agents, as Les suggested. I wonder how true that it vs him trying give himself another reason for overpaying Lin.

If they fail on getting a Dwight/Bynum deal done they'll try to sell him as one to Rockets fans. At least the Boston Rockets fan will buy it.

There's a difference between "doesn't want to be here" and "wants to be in X".

Just out of curiosity, would it make a difference to you if Howard had said he'd love to play in Houston if he got the chance? Were you in favor of the T-Mac trade at the time?

I thought I made that clear in my post? Did you miss the part where I said I would be on it like white on rice? DH is the most dominant center in the league, and at 100% I think he's only 2nd to LBJ as the best player in the league. No one would be opposed to the DH trade if he said he'd love to play in Houston and more importantly signed an extension.

The fact is most people here don't pay attention to the mental aspect of the sport, when it is clearly the most important part. NBA players are human beings too, and just like anyone they will not perform well if they are unhappy or if they think they're underpaid. LBJ was reeling from the "Decision" fallout last year and it resulted in one of the worst mental breakdowns in league history against the Mavs.

But then LBJ got over it, and went on to dominate the league the following season, en route to winning an NBA championship. Dwight may want to be in Brooklyn right now, but once he gets here, he's very capable of changing his mind. You said it yourself....he's the most dominant big man in the NBA. If LeBron overcame his mental breakdown...why can't Dwight?
