defense is clearly far undervalued on this board

did you all not watch the layup drill game after game against the rockets defense last season?

No, most people on the board get it.

It's just some people.. get a stick stuck up their backsides and decide that nothing can sway them from their disapprobation of the move.

Not even the painful memory of having no real way to stop other teams from gouging us on the inside every game.

Morey has proven himself, that when he makes a move for one of these guys who appear to be 'obscure' at first glance, there is always a good reason, and it almost always works out far better than even the most optimistic projections.

Oh noes the guy can't score to save his life! He has terrible hands and can't even average a double-double as a starter! What a bum!

Well that is not good; I don't know if you can teach soft hands. Maybe dish soap would help.

Yao didn't have the best hands when he first came into the league. I remember something about the team having them improve by having him catching tennis balls and such at high speed.

Dennis Rodman never averaged a double double in his career. Hopefully Asik is REALLY good at other things. I wouldn't say Rodman is a slouch.

No, my point was people talk about how good Rodman was and he only really did one thing well. I don't think the ability to avg double doubles is always a fair assessment of a player's abilities. Specialists are ok as well. If he can rebound AND block, we can put pieces around him to score.

I don't think Morey is paying this guy to improve, that would be gravy. He's paying this guy to keep doing what he's doing. As long as he doesn't slack off, I don't think the contract will be a disaster, nor do I believe that Chicago will match, not when next year is a wash for them anyway.

    Lin
    Lamb
    Parsons
    D-Mo
    Asik

Will be a very fun team to watch.

    Now about that bench...

Let me first say that I think when it’s all said and done we are going to end up with Bynum. I also don’t believe the Rockets will give away DMo and Royce for Bynum (they might for D12 but not Bynum).

With that being said, I believe that any FO interested in getting Bynum would be stupid if they do not get him a decent back-up or if they are not willing to pay for a decent one… He needs a decent back-up because his back-up will see a lot of minutes compared to other back-ups in the regular season. Bynum is 7’ 280+lbs. His body/build is not meant to play as many minutes as lighter centers, it’s too much pressure on his knees. Now, what makes him worth the gamble? The PLAYOFFS! In the playoffs you need two things, a big frontcourt and a healthy 8-10 rotation. Unless you have LeBron, Wade and Bosh on your team you need to go big. If you hope to beat LA with Kobe, Nash, Gasol, and D12 (I believe he ends up there) then you better be big with a decent frontcourt rotation. LA, Dallas, and SA all have 7’ers at the 4 and 5. OKC and MEM have big frontcourts that play big. Teams that are big give Miami fits. A 7 game series is a grindfest, teams have to slug it out unlike the regular season where you don’t see each other for 7 straight games. Big bigs are more effective because they pound the other teams in a 7 game series. Plus without being able to hand check anyone its easier for guards to penetrate BUT if you have 7’ers out there guards think twice about going in the paint. If we get Bynum and put DMo next to him you have a big frontline with decent offensive games to really hurt people. You can then rotate with Asik at the 5 and have the offence run through DMo. We will also have Royce in the rotation causing all sorts of matchup nightmares with the other teams with big front lines. Heck we can even go small and have DMo at the 5 and Royce at the 4… That’s a huge match up issue because of Royce’s passing ability and DMo’s range.

Anyway I’m getting carried away… hehe Point is, it’s very important to get Asik even if (especially if) we get Bynum.

    Update please:

So, we are waiting on Leuer and Jordan to clear waivers before Asik can sign the offer sheet, correct?

    Kelvin Cato - six-year, $42 Million contract
    Omer Asik - three-year, $25.1 Million contract

I fail to see the real similarity.
