I don't think Lin is in it for the money. He turned down a ton of endorsements. I don't think it's necessarily "ego" either, per se.

I think he has that same Kobe Bryant type drive to be great, and he knew that he wouldn't get the same opportunity in NY under Woodson and deferring to Melo, compared to here under McHale as the first option.

Arguably, New York is the center of the world. I don't think it's an argument to say that the United States is the most dominant world power on Earth. New York is our financial capitol and therefore the financial capitol of the world.

New York is a big deal, they are the mixed culture capitol of the world. You have people from every corner of the Earth in that one city. I personally think New York is a beacon for how the rest of this planet should coexist. That being said, does it still make sense for every player to play there? No. The influence that the New York Knicks have over advertising does not trump the influence of the NBA.

Endorsements don't happen because you play for the Knicks. They come because you are on national tv. And regardless of what those endorsements are worth, no one endorsement deal will equal your contract's salary. In other words, endorsements are great, but they're not the end all be all.

The writer is obviously just reacting to the news. Big whoop. He's offended, but what is wrong with thinking New York is the advertising center of the world? It kind of is.

Lin could make more than any other NBA player through endorsements if all he wanted was money. But he wants to focus on his basketball.

And even though he hasn't come out and said it, I think we all know how difficult that would've been with the bitter stars in the New York lineup. You can see what kind of environment Lin was in judging from Melo and Smith's unnecessary comments on his contract.

This. Fact is SAS and that other joker can talk about Lin being all about the money or whatever, but Lin actually turned down multiple endorsements in NYC to focus on bball.

Does Lin want to get paid? Of course he does, who the hell doesn't? But endorsement money only comes 2nd after your contract, its very rare that someone making peanuts on the court will make scads of money in endorsements (except for MJ who willingly took a ridiculous extended contract for 7M a year so he can be surrounded by a HOF teammates). Your bball salary gives a good indication of your market value to endorsers, more money on court = higher perception of skill = higher endorsement $$$.

The usual course of business is to get your max contract first, and then the endorsement money will come in. SHould Lin have taken less money just so he can stay in NYC? Maybe if NYC gave him the Lin treatment he would have taken that paycut. But by all accounts they sent him to go find his market value first instead of giving him a standing offer. Contrast that to our treatment of Dragic, who we tried to lock up for 3 years 9m w/ no player option. Sure, that's a bit of a low ball offer, but at least they gave Dragic an offer to consider, NYC didn't give him squat.

If Lin wants more dough, it was actually better for him to go to Houston than stay in NYC. We have no stars, if Lin can blow up he'll be Yao Ming 2.0. In NY he'll be an afterthought and get ISO Melo's leftovers. Speaking of Melo, didn't he leave Denver so he can get more endorsements? How many endorsements does he have? COnsidering his punk image and the fact that he's done nothing in NY I don't know why companies woudl want that fake-ghetto peddling their goods.

"Linsanity" made the Knicks relevant to New York City again. The clutch plays by Jeremy (which is one thing I'm really excited about him doing for the Rockets) is what got people buzzing about him. Everyone thought Melo and Amare would bring that buzz on the street excitement back to the Knicks but they just haven't. I think a lot of knicks fans will look back and wished they had traded Melo at the deadline and brought in a better fit. Even the Heat series wasn't as talked about as that February run. This is why Dolan should have matched even if it cost him a billion dollars.

Also, I think the title should have been: James Dolan may be the dumbest spoiled millionaire ex-junky with a horrible singing voice ever.

My money is on Lin. Forbes you're on warning.
