OKC used the big inning to their advantage in Omaha.

    Let's play 2 in Midland!

After Visalia greeted him rudely his last 2 turns out, Nick Tropeano took the mound in the Hangar.

    Tri-City just wins.

    Impressive pitching performance for Greeneville.

    Recap

OKC only scored in 3 innings, but they made sure to score more than 1, as they topped Omaha 10-5. A 5-run 8th for the Redhawks turned the tide of the game. Before that, Brandon Barnes' grand slam in the 5th (5, 12 season) was the only offense. Matt Dominguez's 2-run double put the Redhawks in front 6-5. After that, they provided plenty of insurance, and Fernando Martinez capped it off with a solo homer (11) to lead off the 9th. Martinez and Barnes both had 3 hits. Brett Wallace, playing shortstop yet again, went 4-5 with a run scored. Travis Buck and Landon Powell had 2 hits and an RBI each. Brian Bass went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walking 5 and striking out 5. Adalberto Flores got the win in relief by retiring both guys he faced in the 7th. Mickey Storey finished it off, allowing a hit and striking out 4 in 2 innings.

Corpus split a doubleheader in Midland, losing Game 1 5-0 and winning Game 2 4-1. In the 1st game, Ross Seaton had to take his lumps by going the distance. He allowed 5 runs on 15 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Seaton only served up 3 extra-base hits, all of which were doubles. Jonathan Singleton and Adam Bailey had 2 hits apiece. Yes, really. Ross Seaton allowed all 15 Midland hits.

In the 2nd game, Jake Goebbert went 2-2 with 2 RBI singles. Singleton scored on an error on Goebbert's 1st single, in the 1st inning. Austin Wates scored on a wild pitch in the 7th. He finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Erick Abreu made a spot start, going 3 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3. Alex Sogard got the win, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless, allowing a hit and a walk. Josh Zeid struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 6th, and Jason Stoffel allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 7th.

Lancaster overwhelmed San Jose, as they clobbered the Giants 9-0. Nick Tropeano threw 6 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6. Zach Grimmett and Brad Dydalewicz finished the shutout. Everyone had a hit except for Jonathan Meyer, who at least drew a walk. Domingo Santana had a sac fly in the 1st and sent one out in the 2nd, a 2-run shot for his 15th of the season. Erik Castro, Telvin Nash, Alex Todd, and George Springer had RBI singles. Grant Hogue went 2-5 and scored twice, with one of the runs coming from a steal of home plate (17). Enrique Hernandez went 2-4 with a double and an RBI groundout.

Tri-City only scored in the 1st and 2nd innings, but they scored plenty as they battered Lowell 9-2. Andrew Aplin, in his 1st game back in the lineup, went 2-3 with a solo homer (2) to lead off the bottom of the 1st, added an RBI double in the 2nd, and scored twice. He also added an outfield assist, gunning down Jake Davies at home plate in the 2nd. So, I'm wondering when he'll be on his way to Lexington. Ryan Dineen had an RBI groundout in the 1st and a 2-run double in the 2nd. Tyler Heineman had a sac fly and an RBI groundout. Jarrod McKinney went 2-4 with a double and an RBI single. Jesse Wierzbicki drew a bases-loaded walk. And, in his pro debut, Preston Tucker went 1-4 with a run scored. Everyone had a hit except for the defensive substitutes. Brady Rodgers pitched well in his 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits (2-run homer), walking 2 and striking out 2. Juan Minaya and Brad Propst retired all 9 guys the faced, with Minaya striking out 4 in 2 innings, and Propst finishing it with 2 strikeouts in the 9th.

    ValleyCats by the numbers:

Greeneville got a great start from Francis Ramirez as they beat Pulaski 4-1. In 6 innings, he allowed a run on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. Ariel Ovando drew a bases-loaded walk in the 1st to drive in the first run of the game. Angel Ibanez hit a 2-run double in the 3rd, and Terrell Joyce added an RBI single in the 7th. Jordan Jankowski struck out 3 in 2 perfect innings, and Mike Dimock got the save, striking out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th. Brian Blasik went 3-3 with a double and scored twice. On his birthday, Marc Wik singled twice (2-2) and scored twice.

The GCLstros topped the Marlins 4-2, as Carlos Correa and The River both had RBI doubles. Teoscar Hernandez, named in WTHB's Under the Radar Prospect team on The Crawfish Boxes, went 2-4 with a double and a 2-run homer (3), his 3rd straight game with a home run. Jose Valdez struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 1st inning. Raul Rivera pitched 2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits (solo homer) and striking out 1. Michael Feliz then came in and wiped the floor with the Marlins, throwing 6 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and fanning 7. Wow.

The Academy got dropped by the Indians 7-1, as Frederick Serrano had the only RBI. Mesac Laguna was 2-4. Samil De Los Santos allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 3 innings, walking 1 and striking out 3.

Yea, I think he's on-pace to get enough innings in HiA to merit a look at AA next spring. His peripherals are all worse than in LoA but not terribly so.

Not a great SP night in the upper minors. However, Vince Velasquez, Dan Minor, and Lance McCullers are in action today.

Thank you both for the well-wishes.

GCLstros getting perfect-gamed... by a 23-year-old from Magnolia who pitched at Sam.

Would seem natural for Bixler to be sent down to play SS, and bring Wallace up.

I guess that would leave us w/o a backup middle infielder though.

Blake Ford recorded his 10th save for Tri-City in the 31st game of the ValleyCats' season. The 10 saves tie a single-season record, which is jointly held by Ryan Cole (2011) and Jason Dominguez (2007).

Well, that's weird. The Greeneville doubleheader will be in Kingsport, but then they'll play Kingsport at home on Saturday night.

Lancaster getting clobbered 13-5, but on the bright side, George Springer is 3-3 with an RBI single right now.

I'd assume if he's serviceable at SS that he'd also be serviceable at 2B. Wallace has the entire infield covered! He does have the body of a catcher too!
