"Self-styled Energy Capital of the World..."

Aside from the fact that it should read "Capitol," I can't stand this kind of passive aggressive journalism. Texas, and specifically Houston, is the energy capitol of the world. It's just a fact. We're not calling ourselves that to brag. Is Paris the alleged City of Lights? Is New York the supposed Big Apple. I will never understand the overwhelming urge of national media to **** on the South, and Texas.

Your post pretty much describes the self conscious mindset of a typical htowner and gives credence to the biggest small town in the world rep that Houston has.

Not to be nit picking, but to me this statement is a jab at JLin's basketball ability, which I don't think is necessary. I mean, his $8.2 mil per year salary is in the low middle pack of all starter PG's in the league and he is only 23 yr old. Are we saying our starting point guard is not even as good as "average"? How much lower would be fair for his skills then?

The contract itself is not out of the ordinary at all. It's just that the way it is strucured, makes it very, very expensive for the New York Knicks to match. Give credit to Morey.

Yeah no kidding. Give the kid a chance to play before saying he's just a brand.

i disagree, the contract he was givin is for an above avg point guard and worth every penny. it's not like he was paid like the elite stars in the nba.

Lin's avg yearly salary is on par with the following (all in the 8-9million/yr range) :
    Steve Nash, $9 million
    Rodney Stuckey, $8.5 million
    Goran Dragic, $8.5 million
    Devin Harris, $8.5 million
    George Hill, $8 million
    --Jeremy Lin, $8.4 million

His output is also near or on par with these PGs, so it stands to reason that he is and will probably continue to be worth his salary when compared to these similar salaries, because he's young and with PT, will improve.

"So while Jeremy Lin the player is not likely to be worth his new contract, Jeremy Lin the brand is worth that and more to the Rockets.”

    Ouch, Clutch. lol

Hopefully this won't hurt Clutch's ability to interview Lin. I do predict one of the Asian horde of reporters will remember and push him out of the way in post-game, locker-room interviews.
