Because they'd shed a ton of salary that's on the books next year.

Houston isn't going to offer them that. That's for damn sure.

In what way, shape, or form is trading Varejao, Dion Waiters + future picks for Andrew Bynum considered "giving up his team's future?"

You yourself pointed out that Irving+Bynum is a playoff team. Irving+Waiters sure as hell isn't. Trading for Bynum improves the Cavs future, regardless of what they gave up (sans Irving).

Spot on. And what is odd, is in the past Bucher WOULD read between the lines. But now he is just parroting.

Ric Bucher is scum. The guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about and his credibility has been lost for quite some time now.

    ok let's see...

    Toronto's pick (#3~#14) > Sacramento's pick (top 13 protected)
Dallas' pick (early 20s) > Lakers' pick (late 20s)
    our own pick (#10~#14 with Bynum+Lin) > Cleveland's pick (#14~#18 with Bynum+Irving)
K-Mart >> Varejao (both Talent & Expiring Contract)
our expiring contract (Unguranteed) >> Cleveland's expiring (Guranteed)
Motiejunas = Waiters (both top 5 talent this year, DMo's also much cheaper)
Jones = Zeller (#17 and #18, Jones is currently playing better)

    case closed.
we can outbid any Cleveland's offer, not even close

personally i'd give K-Mart+Motiejunas+Jones+Toronto's pick+Dallas' pick+Expirings for Howard, J-Rich, and Duhon (replace DMo+Dallas' pick with PP+NY's 2nd picks if Howard not agreeing on extension)
that's 2 of our youngs and 2 bad contracts from Orlando, twice what Morey's offering.

    Howard, Asik
    Patterson, White
    Parsons, Morris
    J-Rich, Lamb
    Lin, Duhon, Douglas

it's probably good for #5 seed this year, and if we can add Josh Smith or upgrade Lin to CP3 next summer we'd be contender.

Um, Cleveland with Irving + Bynum is easily a playoff team in the east. That's a terrible deal for Orlando compared to what we can offer. This talk about Cleveland is just trying to force Morey's hand.

The only threatening situation for HOU is if CLE agrees to trade for Bynum without an extension, and Howard agrees to an extension with LA. But even then, neither team has the assets a rebuilding team would be looking for (quality picks, expiring contracts, and youth with potential). While LA and CLE get what they want in Bynum and Howard respectively, ORL gets left with crap, and they'd be giving up the most.

What upsets me is that LA can even be in Howard talks. Even in a 3-way trade with HOU, why would HOU agree to pick up the tab for LA's steak dinner while settling for the hand-me-down veggie burger that LA did not want because no one at the table said it looked good?

This happened with the Paul trade in December as well, which was the main reason I was against the trade.

D'ah well. A smokescreen is a smokescreen. I guess Morey got annoyed at these outlandish Ric Puecher (that's right, with a "P") reports that are driven by ORL to up the ante from HOU. So, Morey had Mr. Alexander get the chron and blow smoke of his own (pun intended) in Feigen's blog claiming to lessen the significance of trading for a superstar like Dwight Howard due to the Jeremy Lin signing and the excellent play by not only this year's rookie trio, but Motiejunas and Machado as well.

HOU still has the best offer despite the offer not being HOU's best offer. ORL will officially be on the clock when Asik's deal is decided. I still believe that there is a deal in place depending on the turnout of the Lin and Asik offer sheets. Lin's has been decided. There are probably different packages that ORL has reluctantly agreed to. We just have to wait for the pending offer sheets to play out. In the meantime, ORL will use Puecher and pocket media to send their smokescreens and scare HOU into adding more or taking back more contracts. In the end, Dwight Howard will be a Houston Rocket.

All I ask is that he not turn our team into a circus like he did with the magic. We've got a group of good young guys and a chance for a fresh start. If the dwightmare sucks the soul out of that I'll spend my life going from game to game booing him till my vocal chords give out.

I sincerely hope the Cleveland / LA / Orlando deal works out. Sometimes the trade that doesn't happen works out for the best. Stern really did us a favor last year when he nixed the Gasol trade. Getting an INJURED DH here and having to put up with his b****ing and wining all season would be a nightmare. I hope he is off the market before DM makes a mistake. Time to play the young guys like we should have the last three seasons.

Dwight seems easily influenced. If Linsanity is anywhere near the level of attention it got in NY, Dwight will probably be well-behaved and play at a top level for the cameras.

At very least you should be hoping we get Bynum.

I believe the Cleveland/Lakers/Orlando talk are just talk but they were waiting for the pending of the Asik deal...even Jim Buss says something is being pending in LA. Once this is done, Rockets can clear their head and offer them the correct deals and the transaction will begin w/ either Bynum coming to Houston or Howard.

The more I think about doing a 3-way with LA, the more i feel like I'm in a bad German shizer video.

That said, would love to have Bynum. Just don't want to be LA's mook.
