I feel like someone posted something like this recently, but couldn't find it.

I hate when people contradict you just to argue, especially when it's someone you work with or live with. But, of course when you call them out, they deny it and get offended.

    Sorry, just ranting.

I know the feeling. Definitely some posters here that do exactly that.

I hate unfrosted pop tarts. It's like, what's the point? What are you trying to prove?

Kyle Lowry likes frosted pop tarts. You have something against Kyle Lowry?

Yeah, posters do that, but that's the nature of the internet and message boards. I'm talking more about people you have direct conversations with daily.

Yes it gets very annoying and frustrating.

I just act the bigger man and just stop caring when they purposely argue with you just to get you and others frustrated.

I've noticed the Canadians are very contradicting...ehh?

    I get your drift.

To be honest if there was one thing i learned from all of it, is that as much as people are always entitled to say what they want, others are entitled to not to listen to it too.

In the end life is just too short to be bothered by too many things, especially by every little thing that other people say or do.

I disagree with all of you.

Contradiction and thinking for yourself is what makes this country great.

    Tough luck.

This devil's advocate trait is an important trait, and keeps people in check. You should appreciate it for what it is. I used to despise my brother for doing this, until I realized that it helps me. It helps me because when I talk to him now, I make sure that what I'm saying is well thought-out, and this improves my overall thought process.

The only time it bothers me is when someone wants to argue when you are obviously trying to relax and just making a non-controversial comment or something.

Truth. My father does this. His father does this. I do this. My brother is starting to do this. There's nothing wrong with having a strong work ethic and exploring all facets of an idea.

    Its called being "contrarian"

BUT, when its done at home or work, generally its to keep you in CHECK and CHALLENGE you, not to put you DOWN. You just have to fight back and stick up for what you believe, too.

I made the original comment, to Kyrodis in the D&D. He painted himself into a corner with poor logic, so he just started babbling and arguing incoherently. I called him out on it.

Of course. If you're making an argument because you really believe it and you're trying to convince another person of your point of view, it's pretty frustrating for them to come back and say "you're arguing just to argue." It means they think you don't really believe what you're saying, and they are ignoring what you're telling them you're trying to do and instead accusing you of being dishonest and having hidden motives. The worst part is that they've basically shut down listening when you're engaged in trying to persuade them. Isn't it possible that they aren't just being contrarian, but that you're not understanding the argument and you're being intellectually lazy by not even trying to understand? I know that happens to bigtexxx all the time. ;)
