Because Kobe is getting old, but still making a lot of money for the team. They want to have someone replacing him as the core.

I believe CLE can offer lots of future 1st Rounders including a SAC #1. That may be what ORL is looking for...

Honestly at this point I have no regrets if we just play of the season with the current roster, and go into the offseason with 2 high lotto picks (ours, Toronto), and a boat load of cash. Maybe we can outright sign a Howard, Bynam, or other star, and with true lotto picks, it should be easier to trade for another star. I guess similar to what the Celtics did a few years back as they traded a #5 for Allen and signed KG I believe....And we get to keep all our current 'assets'.

Morey just needs to accept that Orlando just wants to be friends, and all of his buddies (us) are perfectly OK with that, since most of his buddies (us) never thought it was going to work out anyway.

    Lin
    Lamb
    Parsons
    D-Mo
    Asik

Now bring back Courtney Lee, find a backup point, find a backup big, and call it a day!

The question is whether Cleveland will give up one of their recent top pick. It seems they won't give up Waiters. But even if they did, does that make it a better offer than Lamb+Toronto's pick?

I'd take Waiters + Cleveland unprotected first over Lamb + partially protected 1st. Cleveland's turrible!!

The Kings #1 is top-10 protected, and the other future first rounders are from the Lakers and Heat. It's basically the same crap deal New Jersey offered - a bunch of late first round picks. That's not at all what Orlando is looking for, unless Rob Hennigan is on drugs.

What does Cleveland have to offer besides Waiters? Any more young players?

Cleveland with Irving and Bynum is a playoff team. Two near-elite (and still improving) players in the East? Come on.

If Orlando can get Varejao, Waiters/Thompson, CLE's first, SAC's first, and other future picks while being able to get rid of Dwight, Hedo, J-Rich, and either Glen Davis or Duhon... then they should do it.

If they're willing to part with them, they also have Tyler Zeller, a young center, and Tristan Thompson.

An overpaid veteran big man on a multi-year fat contract, two mediocre prospects and a bunch of non-lottery picks?

Getting rid of bad contracts would be nice, but I imagine Orlando has loftier goals for starting its own rebuilding than that.

and if people haven't noticed, the Cavs have sucked at drafting unless it's the #1 pick of the draft.

Even beyond what The Cat said about Irving+Bynum being a playoff team, there is absolutely ZERO chance Orlando get back an unprotected pick. At best it has lottery protection, which means it can land in the 15-20 zone as Cleveland's a lesser playoff team. Why would Orlando want a player from a supposed lesser draft next year in the 15-20 range, when they can get a player valued in the 15-20 range from a great draft this year?

Worse come to worst, Morey can simply add another youngster from this draft and trump that offer. Although I very much doubt Cleveland is willing to part with the #4 pick in this year's draft PLUS all their future assets PLUS take on Orlando's salary just to create yet another superteam fro the Lakers. Imagine Dan Gilbert giving up his team's future only to get scrutinized by everyone for being a huge hypocrite.

Guys, when you read that Varejao would be going to Orlando, that should tell you all you need to know about these "rumors" or the chance of anything with Cleveland getting done.

If Hennigan didn't want Lopez, he surely doesn't want Varejao.

Morey still has by far more of what Hennigan wants.

Draft picks, young players and cap relief - and a POSSIBLE centerpiece.

No one with a "centerpiece" is involved or wants to be involved.

Nothing to worry about with Cleveland.
