Morey is becoming better each year. He finally seems to have the upper hand in the draft. I think he learned from his mistake of drafting Morris last year. Probably had 3 staffers correcting his statistical models of college players. One thing you can be sure of with statistic guru's, they will eliminate the bad inputs to their models. He is also able to pry assets from other teams. I believe he will do as well as possible in a trade for Howard. He will not offer one red cent more than needed.
A few weeks ago you would cite Marcin Gortat and claimed that Morey was lowballing young palyers and therefore could never attract free agents, and that other teams would match anyway - that didn't happen, so now you claim he's overpaying for a 23 year old poitn guard. Pick an argument leeb.
Better than the end of the Season? I'm not talking 'upside' I'm talking Talent . . There are two ways 1. IS it a better team now? I would say no 2. Is it better for the future? with out changes no . . but we expect changes Rocket River
Somethings are not math Some is Coaching . . player reaction to coach etc There are some still HUMAN elements to this Morris maybe good . . or could have been better under a different coach not a slight against McHale persay but that some players react differently for different coaches have to have room for the Human Element Rocket River
Toney Doublas is not a good PG, or even an average PG. Why do you think waiver wire pick-up Lin got to play in the first place?
PG: Jeremy Lin, Courtney Lee? SG: Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, Zoran Dragic SF: Chandler Parsons, Royce White, Marcus Morris PF: Patrick Patterson, Terrance Jones C : Omer Asik, Donatas Motiejunas Assuming that Dwight Howard is not acquired and neither Martin or Lee are traded, this currently appears to be the most likely roster that the Rockets have to start the season. It is not a playoff caliber roster in the Western conference, at least not this year. But it is a very nice core of young players that will be fun to watch play and grow. And one or two of them could very certainly develop into superstars, although it is certainly too early to be making that kind of a prediction. But Lamb, Motiejunas and White all have some special talents that could really turn out to be something special. And Terrance Jones looks like a rock solid contributor, at the very least. All of that is of course ignoring the possibility of Jeremy Lin taking the step up to elite status, which I will leave to someone else to make the case for. This team is going to be just fine I think. But for the fans, this year will be a year of training and growth, resulting probably in more losses than wins.
is martin worth more as an asset for his contract or more for his play making? he is unrestricted so to me seems like his value is more in expiring? 14 million I don't see him getting anywhere near that yet martin still is a solid solid player and can get to the line. Martin is going to be a key piece in terms of what we do in the sense he is a key chess piece. I see lowry and scola being like bishops or knights and martin is like tower or the queen. It's neat to look at it from a chess analogy and the pieces we are losing to gain a place and a move somewhere else. I would love to work for the rockets doing this stuff. so fun.
This plus I liked the Hotel California verse, brought back a lot of happy personal memories. The team that ended the season is better than this current team including Asik. I am still waiting for the superstar that is supposed to be traded for the team assets. I am not trying to rain on the parade but it seems like we are always relying on a wing (no pun intended) and a prayer to make this team better. Lin and Asik are not primary player caliber, and the rookies showing up at the Summer League are not a guarantee that they will transfer their game into the real NBA. I am not sorry for being negative and skeptical about Morey's moves, there is just no reason past and present for me to think that the Rockets are positively moving forward. It is OK to wait ten years for a championship as long as we can see positive movements towards that every move Morey makes. At lease, for now, I don't see any movement towards a better team, and yes, Lin and Asik are overpaid, most probably because Morey had to show something this offseason. He has struck off so many times and not doing anything will really roil up the masses.
It's either Dwight, Bynum or Asik + Rookies I think we are in a pretty good position. I don't even care if Lin is good or not. He is going to net us a lot media coverage and it will be something fun to watch and keep up with this season.
easily. we didnt have a NBA point guard before. At least we have a decent point guard who will work well with our rookies (if the Dwight trade doesnt go down).
So last year's team, with Scola and his contract, with Lowry and without the Toronto lottery pick, with CHase Budinger instead of the 18th pick, without the Dalembert move up to 12, without the Camby 2nd rounders "is better for the future" than the current state? Please show me one folx who would agree with that argument.
