AFAIK, they were depleted at that time and before Linsanity happened, he was almost traded to the Raptors for some picks. His contract also wasn't guaranteed until they absolutely had to! The Knicks had first dibs in giving Lin a new contract, but they chose to let Lin go explore his options and let the market dictate his value. Well... they found out what his value was and they couldnt afford it. Get over yourselves NY. Cant wait for the Rockets and Knicks to rumble in the big apple this year.
