If the Howard trade does not go through, and we keep our current lineup (minus kevin martin) and play with this very young team for the season, where does that leave the Rockets for next offseason in free agency and the draft? Number one I really don't know how Morey did this, he has four rookies this season, morris essentially a rookie. Then you have Lin who has started less then thirty games, parsons a second year player, and last but not least patterson who missed a lot of his second year from injury. I almost forget Asik if he were to sign he would be getting starter minutes for the first time as a player. And if that is not enough youth and fresh legs for a team, you have a minimum of two first round picks and maybe three if the Mavs end up giving the Rockets the pick they owe. So what are the odds of this happening the Rockets play out this season with who they currently have. And end up with what i think would be a top 10 pick plus Toronto's (i do not think they will make the playoffs) and maybe the mavs pick, you could then trade those two or three picks plus a player(s) for shabazz or noel. In free agency if you could convince Andrew Bynum to come to Houston as a free agent would be the biggest if in my opinion. But instead of trading everything for a chance that Howard would resign in Houston, I suppose you would be taking a chance that Bynum would chose to come to Houston. Thats a million ifs buuuut you could have a starting lineup that looks like this starting two seasons from now. pg Lin Dragic sg Shabazz Lamb sf Parsons Jones Morris pf D Mo White Patterson C Bynum Asik In this scenario a player or two would be gone to move up in the draft. If the Rockets do not trade for Howard and the Rockets do end up having two or three picks in the draft next year i don't see how Morey would end up keeping them all and not try to trade up or for a player to pair with Bynum there would just be too many players. Next step i guess is seeing if Bulls match for Asik... stay tuned.
Id much rather do the 3 way deal for Bynum if he would be willing to extend it. There's less chance involved. Ive watched us whiff in free agency enough to know that if Morey can get Bynum to agree to an extension, a trade is the way to go. Even if it costs us. Having said that. Im completely on board with watching the rookies play the season out even if it means losing a ton. Id watch almost every game, cause im a fan and that's how I roll. I watched the Texans go 2-14. Comparatively, this would be ten times as exciting because of all the potential.
i don't think you would get a #10 pick with what would be the youngest team in the league I'm guessing. no matter how good these guys are.
Bynum has endured injuries his entire career. Gambling on him would reminds me of Kmart. Only we got a really good deal in that trade.
Both players have injuries. Back injuries can be a serious thing. I know what you mean about Bynum's knees though. Bynum would come cheaper than Howard I would think. That is why I'm more excited about the prospect of getting Bynum. I'd take either Bynum or Howard and be happy. Either one makes us much more of a threat, Howard more so.
If we get the 10th pick in the draft in this scenario, that would mean that one or more of the young guys is playing like a borderline all-star. Cleveland was the third worse team in the league with Irving, and Minnesota was number 10 with Love, Rubio, and bunch of good young players.
If we don't get Dwight you better bet your sweet petootey that we'll go hard after Bynum next year. He'll re-sign in LA though.
Maybe. After Charlotte, there were 7 teams between 20 and 23 wins. My first thought is we'd be one of the 5 worst but I'm really not sure. All the bad teams are really close together so it's hard to estimate. If we're not clearly the worst or 2nd worst team, we might find ourselves in the middle of a pack of other ****ty teams. But maybe a full season will separate the "cream of the crap" more. You really have to win less than 20 to guarantee one of the worst records. I think that team would be bad but I'm not sure if it would be THAT bad.
Dragic isn't a point. I wouldn't want Lamb backing someone up. He needs to play big minutes and develop.
I'm thinking top 5 pick ... maybe get lucky and land #1 .. hell of a lot better chance than 1.8% .. Would also have the Toronto pick that would probably be around #10 .. Would love to see what Morey could do .. That could be a tremendous amount of talent collected in a 3 year period.
well the lineup i had was with shabazz right now supposed to be the 2nd pick in next years draft. i really don't know but lamb might be a player like harden terry or ginobli.
i agree its very hard to estimate what record the rockets would have. the bobcats and wizards last year i think had players with a higher number of games played in the past then the rockets would next season.
