No Lamb, no Dmo, that's our future big 3 with Howard or our future core if he doesn't resign.

They ought to br drooling for Jones. (with Martin, two picks, Richardson and Duhon's contracts our way and any of the low paid or nongurateed players we have, like Leur)

'(oh crap I forgot what thread I was in, all threads are Howard threads)

I don't understand all of this Lee love.
Sure I would like to keep him but he isn't a starting two guard in this league, he's a good backup at best. I hope we can keep Lamb first or Martin second.

I disagree he's a good 2 way player that could be a starting role player for a team who needs shooting and defense.

There is no longer any benefit to be had from a Dragic S&T, since the Rockets now HAVE to clear his cap hold off the books and have no current use for a trade exception (which would just need to be immediately renounced to create the cap room for Asik).

But, hey, all of our other players are going to Phoenix. Why not Leuer or Smith as well? ;)

He's not exceptional in any one area of the game...but he is very solid in most areas of the game. Team him up with Lin and Howard and he is a perfect compliment.

Since the Lin offer sheet was (some would say unexpectedly) not matched, the Rockets now have to waive or trade one minimum salaried player. If that player is waived, it takes 48 hours for that player to clear waivers and officially be taken off the Rockets' cap. Only then (and combined with an official renouncement of their Bird rights to Goran Dragic) will the Rockets have the requisite cap room available to sign Asik to his offer sheet.

The Rockets held off doing any of this before the Knicks decided not to match on Lin because, had NYK matched, the Rockets could have just used the resulting cap room opened up by the Knicks' match on Lin to then use on Asik, allowing the Rockets to keep an extra non-guaranteed salary on the books for use in a Dwight Howard trade.

Hope that explains it for you.

I don't want us to match either. As good as I think Asik is defensively he will tie up the cap too much if we trade for Dwight. I'm thinking big picture (Summer 2013) and two max players.

A S&T of Dragic would benefit us in making a Dwight trade if indeed Asik had agreed to sign an offer sheet with either us or Orlando depending on whether the Dwight trade goes through or not. I'm still wondering if Asik has agreed to sign an offer sheet from either team, in other words, if Dwight is traded here, he has already agreed to sign an offer sheet from Orlando which would be offered as part of the Dwight trade while we still have the most options to take on the most salary.

I seriously doubt that Orlando (especially after re-upping with Jameer Nelson) will get far enough under the cap this year (even after making a Dwight Howard trade with Houston) in order to be able to sign Asik to the agreed-upon offer sheet.

Omer Asik will be either a Bull or a Rocket to start next season.

Goodness gracious...i know its just preseason.but damn...these kids have chemistry already...cant really teach that...The Rockets should really scrap the Dwight trade...Rarely do teams hit on the draft and hit big...OKC did...and the Rockets may have as well...seriously its about time our fortunes changed for the better...but Morey has done a marvelous job hitting on all his picks so far...they each have something that is unique and special...Hard not to like the rooks when they play like this

Can Asik's offer sheet still be changed? Or was Lin's change of offer sheet legal because we got it in still during the moratorium(I forget when we changed the offer)?

Maybe this is one way to entice Orlando to trade Howard...by seeing how good our rookies are....

If we trade the salary away instead, there is no wait period, correct?

What about impacts to a potential Dwight trade in either scenario - waive vs. trade?

With a trade, may have to wait for the player to report to his new team and take his physical. 24-48 hour wait there.

Shouldn't have too big an impact on a Dwight trade either way.

I think so too. But....we could arrange a trade so that Orlando has room to sign Asik to an offer sheet.

We need a defensive big to help with rookie development.
Our rooks will get eaten alive without a good defensive big behind them.

    Hoping for Asik.
    Hoping we dodge Dwight.

    Does this look right?
    Lin/ Machado
    Martin/ Lee/ Lamb
    Parsons/ White
    Patterson/ Jones
    Asik/ DMo

I don't see Lamb being third string. I think he is more likely to start if he can prove himself to be a decent defender.
