So I've been around a while, but don't post much (25 years in USAF Intel caused me to lurk more). I loved our draft and was excited about SL, which was amazing in itself for me. However, I've watched every game and as a diehard fan I have to agree with so many of you--KEEP OUR ROOKIES and forget about D12 Morey--PLEASE!!! This team is so much fun to watch! They've have so much chemistry, despite not having a decent PG to run the offense. I've got to believe Motie would be up there if he wasn't drafted last year and White has really turned it on. Let's just play with these young guys and build our team. I'm sure we would be lottery bound, but hey the experience these guys would get is worth it. Alright, that's my 2 cents--let's petition OUR TEAM'S Leaders to "Keep the Kids!"
Don't get too excited about Summer League stats, they mean nothing in the large scheme of things. Just remember, these are mid to late round draft picks. The odds on them being future cornerstones are very small. Smaller than the chance of Dwight, a proven commodity, staying here should a trade happen. That's not to say they can't or won't be good players, but you shouldn't overrate them and be willing to throw in the towel on a true NBA Superstar based on a handful of summer league games against other rookies, sophomores, and undrafted players who don't even have roster spots.
Donte green put up 40 in a summer league... he hasn't done much since. I think these players will all be better, but they are all tradeable in the right deal. Lamb i think has the most potential to be an all star caliber player.
Keep Lamb and Dmo at all costs. Martin, Parsons, White, Raptor pick, fillers for Dwight and Hedo. Take it or leave Magic.
I'm in for keeping the rookies but I seriously seriously don't want the Lakers to get freaking DHoward. Seeing Nash going to the lakers hurts as it is already. Hearing news about how they going to win the chip with Howard going to depress me.
CB, Roger on all your points. But frankly I'm tired of reaching for the stars, especially ones that don't really want to be here. For me I love the energy, passion and potential our team is displaying no matter what the game. Look back and you'll find many examples of mid-1st round picks that are HOF quality Drexler and Malone come to mind. So while my head agrees with your logic, my heart and my gut say "Keep the Kids!"
MVP, I've got a good friend whose a Lakers fan and I congratulated him on getting Nash--maybe I'll watch a Lakers game just to see how Kobe meshes with him. I'm an old guy that grew up watching the old Celtics and trying to emulate Havlicek. With Parsons, Lin, Lamb, White, T Jones, Motie, Patterson, Asik, etc. I see the potential to build a TEAM. A team that plays together and works hard. Not a team of 2-3 prima donas all demanding the ball and endorsements. Again, I'm old school and maybe the days for those teams are past, but I can dream.
Please quit throwing that excuse around. Donte did that for ONE game. The new kids have been consistently good. I see high potential with these guys. Let them grow like OKC did. And if you agree with the OP, tell Morey how you feel!
No we need to go all Lin. The time to make a splash is now. Dwight or Bynum. This is what needs to happen.
Summer league reality check in 3...2...1. Look, I like the rooks a lot but I like winning more. Keeping the rookies with Lin (and not getting Asik or another big star) means we're looking at, what, 30 wins? As much as I hate a 40 win season a 30 win season is much worse. If trading one or two rooks gets us Dwight then that's a 50 win season and a 4 or 5 seed. I don't think fans who love the rookies will still love them as much when we win 25-30 games next year.
if we win 25 games, ill be fine. if we get a great player in the 2013 draft, and still have these rookies, i'll be the happiest guy in the world.
I'm sorry but your way of thinking about the draft is just faulty... I'm assuming you think that with lower the pick, lower the chances are that you can get a star with that pick... right? Well guess what? That doesn't always hold true. Team's and Scouts often reach and make mistakes when it comes to drafting and evaluating players. Players that should have been taken later in the draft get taken ahead, and cause better players to drop. Also sometimes players that should have been taken in the top 10 drop significantly, because of certain issues (like anxiety, motor issues, etc) that really turn out to be a non factors. Which I think is the case with each one of our guys. For example, Motiejunas was considered a lock as a top 10 pick both in 2010 and 2011, but fell hard after his bad season in Treviso, and questions about his motor and rebounding started to come up. Since then he's showed that his motor and rebounding abilities really aren't the big issues that they were making them out to be. All I'm saying is that you can't tell how good a player will be based on his draft slot. Because the possibility of human error, when it comes to scouting and drafting, is to great to take a draft slot into consideration.
One game. These dudes are showing they can consistently stomp on their peers. They are better than their peers. Time for the big show. They ready. Stop hatin.

I'm glad some of you aren't the GM. We have a legit shot at getting a top 3-5 player and you guys are crying about keeping some mid first round garbage rookies.
