cutting a behind the bench guy isn't the most crucial decision. Granted last season that was Jeremy Lin, but that happens once in a blue moon. Standing beyond the end of the bench players is not that hard of a decision. Face it, a lot players on the Rockets team will have to be traded or released. After all, only 15 could be retained.
Oh yeah, your right. Here's the tweet from Clutchfans: "Center Greg Smith not with the Rockets yesterday and won't be today either. Team not commenting on it right now. Something's shakin'."
Smith's contract isn't big enough according to Bima, although he was waived/dismissed for not making the bus to Sunday's walkthrough.
Here are a couple of examples of trades where you stack as many of those guy in as possible to be able to take contacts off Orlando's hands. Orlando simply cuts anyone they don't want. Throw in a rookie and some picks and you have a deal. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6rtk645 http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7nabf7o
Again, no. His contract isn't big enough. (2) Waive one of the minimum-salaried, non-guaranteed contracts (from among Jon Leuer, Josh Harrellson, Jerome Jordan, Courtney Fortson and Diamon Simpson). Greg Smith's 2012-13 is guaranteed for about $381k, so waiving him would still leave the Rockets just an ounce shy of being able to make the Asik offer sheet.
Not to be an a-hole or anything, but exactly WHO are you talking about? Which player is both guaranteed "dead weight" and not a potentially key piece to a Dwight Howard trade? Kevin Martin? He's still a good player and his contract is THE KEY PIECE in a Howard trade. Shaun Livingston? His $3.5M contract (3rd highest 2012-13 salary behind Martin and Lin) is only guaranteed for $1M, so his deal would be a nice piece in a Howard trade (straight up for Duhon as a separate trade or, if a Dwight trade doesn't get done until late August, aggregated with other salary). Jon Brockman? He makes $1 million. Sure, he may be "dead weight", but it's not killing the Rockets' cap or anything. Also, what was the point of your prior post to begin with? The entire point of this thread was regarding which NON-GUARANTEED contract would be waived in order to open up the cap room to sign Asik. By your explanation above, you gratuitously commented that one or more GUARANTEED contracts should be waived in order to get rid of "all the scrubs" on the Rockets' roster, even though it was pointless to the thread entirely. It's okay to admit you made a mistake. None of us will (or at least I won't) think any less of you for it.
omg. are you even reading the threads? Bima has said it like 5 times. we want those non-guaranteed contracts on the book that way we have assets for a Howard trade. i cant explain it as well as he can, obviously..but go look at his comments throughout the forums. please.
he has a partially guaranteed contract. i would much rather waive Fortson or Simpson for no loss than waive Smith and have to give up some money.
fortson, simpson. one of those guys, im not sure who to pick or how to decide which one is the worst lol. but i think fortson can atleast do something (i think). simpson on the other hand, can't do jack out there.
Yep. According to shamsports.com, Jon Leuer's contract becomes fully guaranteed at 11:59 pm on the day of his team's last summer league game. The Rockets' final summer league game is tomorrow, July 18. Still, I agree with those saying that Leuer is the best basketball player out of all the players currently with non-guaranteed contracts. I'd like to keep him and/or hope that Orlando values him enough that a guaranteed Leuer is more valuable than a non-guaranteed contract. That trade makes all kinds of sense. Too bad it probably won't happen. Apparently, Sacramento managed to use all their cap room up (according to reports). Here's hoping a deal like that could be done to trade Brockman, who is actually a serviceable backup big who's tough as nails. The Rockets simply don't have any room for him; and I'm not so sure that Orlando would like him much either. Correct. Trading Smith would eliminate the need to waive anyone else and also creates room on the final roster for Jon Leuer if he's not waived and he's not included in a Dwight trade package.
If we can trade Brockman and Smith away for a future second rounder or for no salary basically, then we shouldn't have to renounce Dragic or Lee to sign Asik to an offer sheet, provided we waive all the non-guaranteed guys.
