I'm sorry, but this is not about simply choosing what you believe. There is no doubt that, in the modern day, the existing infrastructure and capitalism-friendly governments play a HUGE role in the generation of wealth. This isn't really something that's debatable.

In most cases, it's not an either/or question. It's not a matter of choosing one of these things as the answer - it's a question of how much each contributes to a particular person/situation.

This whole idea of the "rugged individualist" should have died when the last era of genuine "rugged individualists" died.

The majority of the wealthy (and I mean REALLY wealthy, not some guy who made a $1,000,000 selling his patent to Google) in this nation, those who seem to have the greatest amount of influence, almost without exception inherited the power and privilege to continue generating wealth. That's more-or-less the opposite of a rugged individualist.

No one over the age of 12, or not a member of an Ayn Rand circle jerk, should think those are mutually exclusive.

As a small business owner and "job creator," this cultish worship of anyone involved in business is such a piece of garbage.

No one is suggesting that the person who started a business doesn't deserve credit but to suggest that the efforts of governments to develop infrastructure have nothing to do with the success of a business is absurd.

Go start a business in Somalia and tell me if its easier or harder to start a business without a government around.

then why is Obama trying to drive it home how much we owe to the government? He's just trying to take more of our tax money. He's a greedy idiot. I don't know why he doesn't just pass a hat to all his rich hollywood friends asking for additional voluntary taxes, rather than trying to shame hard working people into being happy paying higher taxes.

I don't think anyone disputes that being in a country with a strong legal system, infrastructure and such is necessary to harvest the talent of these individuals, but it is those people that change this world.

Almost 40 Out of the 50 richest Americans didn't inherit their wealth or power but strove and succeeded to do so. Why Thadeus is that true? Yes there are some people from Wal-Mart, Marrs or other firms that for a generation or two may live off someone else's toil, but most of the wealthiest Americans built their wealth themselves.

Its crazy how many social progressives love Europe which ironically is so much tilted towards generational power and wealth much more than America has ever been.

300 years ago when a business was started, the government was not involved.

That's like saying, if you shot and killed a deer then cooked it and ate it, you can thank whoever made the pot or knife you used to eat with.

You can thank the last deer hunter who didn't find that deer, so thank him for your meal cause you didn't get it on your own.

In reality, you did get it on your own, but if NObama wants to play hypotheticals I guess he is right.

If you do anything in this world, its never on your own unless you live in Antartica and catch and kill your own food, but then again, someone made your tools, who had used the steel that was made in the factory that was built with the bricks that was delivered by trucks using roads, so you can thank the government.

    What a moron.

Not sure what that has to do with the philosophical argument we're having.

But i'm not against the estate tax. I would rather have a higher estate tax then a higher income tax. I'm one that is not a fan of old money and business or political aristocrisy.

I guess you've been reduced to just following me around and squawking at me? You and QdoubleA love that!

You didn't disprove my post at all with your insults. I'll be the bigger man, again.

Please do not be upset at the fact that I call out your false statements and blatant lies. You bring down the credibility of the board with your subpar posting, please try to be more logical and less of a bigot, thank you.

You disproved your own post by making comments that didn't resemble reality in any way.

Am I the only on who thinks "You didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen" is referring to the "roads and bridges"?

Talk about taking a quote out of context and making a mountain out of a molehill...just like Romney's "I like firing people" comment.
