    We probably wouldn't. LA would.

Orlando gets Pau and Martin (these two keep them competitive in the East) and, say, one of our picks this year and Toronto pick.

We get Bynum and MAYbe a bad contract.

LA gets Howard (they can have him), coupla bad contracts, maybe Ppat, something like that.

Something "equitable"-ish that Stern MIGHT NOT squash.

Orlando exchanged medical records with Brooklyn. Im pretty sure Houston would do the same. Do you think that fans are the only ones that are concerned with health? Thats why all trades are contingent on a team physical. And we arent talking about a "turn and cough" physical. We are talking MRI's, bone density scans, etc.

Every player in the NBA is drafted at some point with the exception of a Jeremy Lin every once in awhile making it undrafted. Players move teams all the time. Look at the names listed previously... Wilt Chamberlain, Pete Maravich, Shaq, Drexler, Kobe(draft night TRADE), CP3, D-Will, Melo, Lebron(S&T), and soon to be Dwight Howard.

PLAYERS GET TRADED ALL THE TIME. FACT. NOT A DEBATE.

I love how every single Lakers proposal involves them dumping Pau's overpriced contract and getting the best player in the deal (Howard).

There's an unspoken assumption that the Lakers shouldn't have to give up anything of value to land a superstar, and other teams should facilitate them. Because hey, they're the Lakers.

Good luck with that. It's never a sure thing and you'll just be horrible for years and years unless you get REALLY lucky like OKC did.

    (Potential) Superstars:

    2011- Kyrie Irving (?)
2010- Nobody, arguably, the two best players would be John Wall and Cousins.
    2009- Blake Griffin, James Harden,
2008- Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love,
    2007- Kevin Durant
2006- Brandon Roy (retired), maybe Aldridge, Rajon Rondo
2005- Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Andrew Bynum,

I guess we'll see what the deal is, if any is made, and save judgment until something actually happens.

So you'd rather try to draft one and waste 5+ years to build a team rather than trade for one of the best players in the NBA? Thank god you don't run an NBA team.

So if Dwight doesn't stay and you trade most of your young players and take back bad contracts what will you say then Mr. GM?

My thoughts exactly! If you can get one of the best players in the NBA, you do it! We're going nowhere fast anway...if Dwight walks, this just helps us get there faster!

He'll say that he'll maybe be able to draft a superstar in the next 10 years.

Im not wishing for Dwight. If they get him, they get him and then Morey's job really starts when he has to make the secondary moves around Dwight, but thats the point. When you can get a player to build around... you get him. You take that chance every time.

If someone like you wants to continue to rebuild through the draft that is fine, but realize what you are really wanting the team to do, and the true likelihood of success longterm in that strategy.

Do you want to spend a decade hoping to draft... the next Dwight Howard, or would you rather just get the original Dwight Howard now and be a contender overnight???? Your choice.

If you want to say.... naw, I dont want Dwight Howard, I want my team to suck for the next 5 to 10 years to get the chance at drafting the next Dwight Howard then thats fine.

Thats your opinion, but that doesn't excuse your baseless claims that star players are never traded, and that you dont trade for a superstar for the fear of injury in the future when you have some of the world best doctors research medical records, and perform detailed physicals on that player beforehand.

If Dwight's career is done because of injury, I GUARANTEE you one of the Rockets doctors will make sure to send that memo to Morey before they trade him.

i'd wanna get dwight so we can make the playoffs if only so we can just get rid of that pick obligation already. it kinda makes me scared. what if we're terrible in a few years and we have to give up an unprotected #1 pick in a few years.

Have you not been paying attention to anything in the past 2 months regarding Houston's position on retaining Dwight post trade? There is literally one other team that can sign Dwight in free agency. Dwight Howard is never going to take the mid-level exception just to go play in Brooklyn. Yes, there is risk involved, but do you not think there is risk in tanking for a draft pick????

Source familiar w/ the Lakers-Dwight situation tells me the dialogue is "ongoing" but right now the trade would be "very tough to pull off"

pretty much implied here that Superstars are "usually" drafted and retained by the team that drafts him.
