Why is everyone so sure Dwight can still play at an elite level? It's way to many risks factors involved with him...play your young guys..in order for superstars to come in the league they have to get drafted..get a high pick and the Toronto pick and build for the future simple

Yeah! You can NEVER acquire a truly elite franchise player via trade.

    Sincerely,

    2004 Houston Rockets (Tracy McGrady)
2010 New Jersey Nets (Deron Williams)
    2011 L.A. Clippers (Chris Paul)
2012 [Whichever Team Dwight Howard Is INEVITABLY Traded To]

    :p

Very true. I believe the last reports from Aldridge when the Rockets negotiations broke a few days ago was - "Here's our offer, if you find another offer out there you like more, come back to us, and we will go from there."

To me this means a couple things- Obviously Morey wants to pay only as much as he has to, and not a penny more. Its worth it to wait till training camp if he has to in order to retain as many young players and cap space as possible for either a secondary move for another player to play with Dwight, or to retain quality players to play alongside Dwight.

Whats going to be the most important move of Morey's tenure in Houston is not aquiring Dwight, its going to be what moves he makes after aquiring Dwight that defines everything he's worked so hard to do up to this point in the last 4 or 5 years. It imperative that he gets Dwight on the best deal possible.

I believe the offer Morey previously had on the table the other day that was reported by Feigan is still the best deal available unless a team like OKC steps in and all the sudden offers up Harden and Ibaka. Until then, the Rockets are doing what they must do. Stand pat with their offer, and be patient.

The Lakers also traded for Wilt Chamberlain.

Another recent example that I left off was the 2008 L.A. Lakers (Pau Gasol), although he may not have been at the same exact level at that time as the others I mentioned.

Dragic has an agreement in place with the Suns, but he hasn't actually signed. He comes off our cap when the Suns sign him, or when the Rockets renounce him.

Why neither of those have happened yet... I don't know. Maybe there's a chance that the Suns would like to do a sign-and-trade with us to ease their cap gymnastics.

We can only hope they won't blow the Magic away with whatever they're planning on offering.

Then again, I hope this is just another tool to gain leverage on the Rockets, and nothing substantial. Only time will tell I guess...

It really seems that if the Lakers are serious about trading for Bynum that we are the third team involved. Maybe the best thing to do is to get Bynum, give up less of our young talent and facilitate the trade. Or do we need to go all in and make sure the Lakers don't end up a clear favorite to win it all?

Goran Dragic has not officially signed his deal with the Phoenix Suns. Even though the Suns' offer sheet to Eric Gordon has been matched, and the Suns have made other moves, they STILL have not put ink to paper (or finger to iPad) to actually SIGN a contract with Dragic.

The Rockets do not lose their (approximately $4.01M) cap hold for Dragic until either (a) they renounce their rights to Dragic or (b) Dragic officially signs his contract with the Suns.

Therefore, as of this precise moment in time, the Rockets still possess the ability to use Dragic in a sign-and-trade deal. Of course, any such trade would involve Dragic being signed to the same deal to which he agreed and being traded to Phoenix. But the Rockets might be able to get something out of such a deal, namely either a trade exception or something else (either from Phoenix or a third team).

However, if the Knicks fail to match the Lin offer sheet, my guess is that Houston will then renounce its rights to Dragic in order to create enough cap space to make the Asik offer sheet.

Morey's going to keep all of his options open until he has to foreclose a particular option.

    1965 76ers - Wilt Chamberlain
1974- New Orleans Jazz- Pistol Pete Maravich
    2004 Miami Heat- Shaquille O'Neal
    2007- Celtics- Kevin Garnett

Should we continue... yeah, I think its safe to say that its ... slightly... possible that you can aquire a franchise player via trade.

A Lakers trade would be very complex and would probably involve AT LEAST another team to take on another bad contract.

Only possible way the Magic trade Dwight to LA anytime soon is if they somehow get a very firm commitment from Bynum that he will sign long term. I certainly do not expect that to happen.
