So, if you're Bynum...are you going to agree to an extension of 3 years when there's a 4 year deal on the table if you walk away? Nope.

Orlando will have to complete this trade for Bynum and Gasol without knowing whether they can keep Bynum or not. They then trade away Gasol because he simply doesn't fit. Where they going to trade him to? What value are they going to get for him?? Who is going to be willing to give up legit talent and/or draft picks for Pau at this stage? Minny??? Orlando comes out with Derrick Williams and an expiring Bynum??? Send Pau to Utah for Jefferson's expiring and one of Favors or Kantor (likely kantor)???

Doesn't beat our deal. Sorry. Orlando is doing their last go-arounds before they settle out and send Dwight to Houston.

I have a feeling we'll land Bynum with losing only one of the 4 rookies.

I have a feeling that Asik has agreed to sign an offer sheet from either the Rockets or the Magic pending a Dwight trade.

If so, this explains what Orlando is doing right now with the Lakers. They are scouring for a final alterntive to a trade with the Rockets. Orlando has the opportunity to push out more salary if they make a trade with the Rockets before the Rockets sign Asik to an offer sheet and risk him not being matched and gobbling up cap room.

It all makes sense if Asik has agreed to sign our offer sheet or an offer sheet from Orlando.

Orlando can send out more salary to us, then make an offer to Asik...and hope Chicago matches...or turn Asik into a trade piece at the deadline. Or Orlando is looking at the possibility of having to make a trade with the Rockets after we sign Asik and Chicago doesn't match, which means they won't be able to give away as much salary to us.

This decision for Orlando is possibly imminent after tonight when the Lin decision is complete.

    Just my speculation.

I can't see the Lakers pulling off a trade for Howard even in a 3 way. They would have to take back bad contracts to cover up the fact they could not send any expirings, young talent other than Bynum, or worth while draft picks. Bynum for Howard straight up will not do it.

So with that said the only players they have to to give for bad contracts are their key staters and rotation players. They have no flexibilty in my novice opinnion.

    Player 2012/13 2013/14 2014/15 2015/16
    Kobe Bryant $27,849,000 $30,453,000 $0 $0
    Pau Gasol $19,000,000 $19,285,850 $0 $0
    Andrew Bynum $16,473,002 $0 $0 $0
    Steve Nash ?
    Metta World Peace $7,258,960 $7,727,280 $0 $0
    Steve Blake $4,000,000 $4,000,000

But the fact remains.....WHY would Orlando want Gasol?? He's almost 33, getting set to get paid $38 MILLION over the next 2 seasons, and is softer than Charmin. The Lakers have NO PICKS, NO YOUNG PLAYERS, AND NO ASSETS (outside of Bynum) to offer! I DON'T understand why the Lakers are able to even get an audience for this junk! This is the same garbage as the Brooklyn Nets. AND WHY would Bynum agree to an extension with Orlando right now?? He would be leaving 2 years on the table if he did that, and if Orlando traded for him WITHOUT an extension, then they would be right back here in a year talking about Bynum instead of Dwight. This simply makes no sense at all. If all it takes for LA to get Dwight is Bynum and Gasol, then LA would be stupid not to jump on that. Orlando would be doing THEM a favor.....not the other way around.

I've admired your takes on the situation so far, since they've basically jived with I've been saying all along.....you just vocalize it better than I do ;). So my question to you is this.....regardless of the Lin situation, when do you foresee this Dwightmare getting resolved?

I don't know -- Derrick Williams could be attractive to Orlando, especially if they think they can pair him with Bynum. The big obstacle is whether Orlando would roll the dice on a Bynummare. But theoretically, a Williams Bynum tandem offers youth and upside.

You can bet that Minny would deal for Gasol in a heartbeat.

Based on what I believe about the Asik offer, I think there is going to be a trade window for Dwight open after the Lin decision. Especially if the Lin offer is not matched, that limits things. If Lin is matched, then we can still make the same deal based on Asik signing an offer sheet. But if Lin is not matched, there is a short window open for Orlando to make a Dwight trade. Then if they do not execute a trade, we will sign Asik and there's another 3 days, with our ability to take on less contracts. Then if Asik is matched, we are open again to make the original deal. And if the Asik deal is not matched, then we have even less ability to take on salary.

Morey is going through steps with Orlando. I suspect he's already put his best deal on the table and we're walking down steps. I suspect a trade is made either tomorrow or after the Asik decision is made on Saturday. If it goes past Saturday, it gets more difficult. We have to sign our picks at some point. Once they are signed, Orlando either has to go into the season with Dwight or at the very least they have to risk one or more of our guys getting injured. I think after this coming Saturday, our odds of acquiring Dwight deteriorate further.

I expect a Dwight trade either tomorrow or Saturday.

To clarify,@DwightHoward still Brooklyn-or-bust in-season or when free in 13-14. #Rockets likeliest to rent, turn him into asset either way.

To clarify: Fagan, the agent (and agents) will ultimately determine the fate of the teams and players.

If Lakers get Dwight, any plan other than tanking is nuts.

Yahoo! Sports says LAL-ORL talking Dwight Howard. Could be LAL-ORL-HOU 3-way, LAL sending ABynum to HOU with Rockets taking ORL contracts

I call getting Bynum and still taking on contracts that Orlando wants to be rid of so that LA can get D. Howard a bunch of crap. But this thing's got to be a whole lot more complex than that...although I'd rather not assist LA in any way in strengthening their powerhouse position. Screw 'em! :p
