Two days ago, different people in the media had their "sources" and claimed that the Knicks were matching. Or not matching.

The last 24 hours has been completely silent on that front...and that scares me.

    65/35...the Knicks match.

    And that sucks.

Spears at Yahoo is the most reliable (with Woj on vacation), and he had source saying "highly doubtful" as of last night. Some hope.

Anybody kinda want the Knicks to match our offer just to prove Stephen A Smith wrong? He's so sure that the Knicks won't.

I know everyone is fired up, but decision on Lin isn’t expected until tonight (deadline is 9 p.m. PT) after Knicks hierarchy meets in Vegas.

I am so nervous..Can't wait for the decision

Knicks fans love him and he brings too much money for them to NOT match. NYK would be stupid not to bring him back. They've overpaid way worse players than Lin. I will be very surprise if they don't bring him back to NY.

If they announced not matching Landry Fields offer earlier, I expect they will do the same with Lin announce if they are matching, or not. If they don't take side by 12am, I think the Knicks really want to play games with the Rockets.

    That makes me feel better.

I think this team needs Lin badly...in more ways than one.

My money is still on them matching it.

I just don't see them passing on all that money that they can take with Lin on the roster.

Neither outcome is a slam dunk.

If we get Lin, he could play at last years Lisanity level or he could become very average (last year as Linsanity wore on, scouting proved to diminish Lin's effectiveness. More turnovers, lower shooting %, ect)

If NY matches, either of the above scenarios could happen to them as well.

Since Lin is getting paid more than expected, despite the fringe benefits (asian money), he would have to perform at or near his peak Linsanity level for either club (whoever gets him) to claim a total victory in having him on their roster. This is especially true for NY since they will be paying some amount in additional luxury tax making him that much more expensive.

The advantage NY has is (assuming Kidd gets his act in gear) that they have two (Kidd, Felton) decent to above ave PG's already and can afford to lose him more than Houston who without Lin are looking at below average performers at the 1 spot without Lin.

In the end, Houston needs him more, and more over can better afford him more easily. NY has boxed themselves into a corner politically in that they have claimed all along they will match ANY contract, and if they get fickle now, their fragile public relations dept gets still another embarrassment. So NY's need is more on the face saving front than the court itself. I am not saying Lin wouldnt help them on the court also, but the stakes are so high (salary) that he would have to have numbers similar to last year to clearly make them better than Kidd/Felton would. If Lin fizzles, it could actually end up being a larger embarrassment than letting him go.

Both teams are wagering big time Lin will perform. If he doesnt, its going to be costly.

If I were them and if I were not going to match, I would announce it as late as possible.

Money is important...but being that much over the luxury tax puts some major ramifications on their basketball operations. They will be severely handicapping their ability to put a winning team on the court.

I don't think it's a failure if the Knicks match; it saddles them with a ton more payroll on a team which already has 3 point guards and is deep into the luxury tax. Luxury tax which will go to the other 29 teams, including the Rockets.

It may also be a play to knock New York off Dwight's trade wishlist in the offseason. No sign-and-trade deals with Lin onboard!

I think Morey planned on them matching from the beginning. That there's a chance they won't now is cool, but either way the offer was a win/win and a positive move.
