Not a fan of comedy in my comicbook movies. However, these movies are definitely here to stay. Too many characters, too many stories , TOO MUCH $$$.
So is the Iron Patriot a villian? Some intriguing photos have hit the internet from the set of "Iron Man 3," revealing a possible new villain or a villain hybrid. The pictures above and below (via Coming Soon) reveal James Badge Dale dressed in what looks like the costume for the Iron Patriot. However, Dale plays Eric Savin in the film, who in the comic books goes on to become villain Coldblood. So perhaps the Iron Patriot and Coldblood have been merged into one villain? Or maybe the Savin casting information was to throw everyone off the scent?
Iron Patriot in the comics is Norman Osborn. He becomes the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. which he disbands and turns into H.A.M.M.E.R.. He creates the Dark Avengers, which are basically villains that think they're good guys due to Osborn lying to them. Osborn himself puts on the Iron Patriot suit (which is a combination of Iron Man and Captain America of course) to try and make everyone believe he's a hero, while forwarding his own agendas. Naturally Iron Patriot in this movie will not be Norman Osborn because Sony owns the rights to the Osborn character. So...yeah, there you go.
It is not Iron Patriot...It's war machine with colors.. http://latino-review.com/2012/06/08/exclusive-iron-patriot-iron-man-3/
It's iron patriot no matter what they're calling it. People who read the comics aren't going to be like "OH HEY IT'S WARMACHINEEEE".
Wait, Norman Osborn is the Green Goblin ya? So he's Iron Patriot by day and the Green Goblin by night? Is he even getting paid overtime?
Yeah, if Captain America wore that particular suit... if he put on the red one he'd look like the red one. Spoiler
That whole stretch was going on during Marvel's "dark period" in the aftermath of Civil War and Captain America (seemingly) being assassinated. It was a Marvel sending a cryptic political message about bad people sometimes getting control in the US (a la Lex Luthor becoming president in DC Comics). The Bush/Cheney regime elicited a response. So Norman Osborne declared himself "cured" from the mental illness that prompted Green Goblin, and put forth a heroic image to dupe those in charge and the public. A lot of the faux-Avengers he put together were likewise baddies in the guise of popular heroes: Venom as Spider-man Wolverine's bad boy son as Wolverine Hulk's bad boy son as Hulk Bullseye posing as Hawkeye etc The comics had done this sort of thing before - Freedom Force (US Govt team composed of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants) or Suicide Squad (DC)
