If it smells racist, it is racist...

I mentioned it earlier but I still haven't heard all of the people saying this isn't racist tell me why other black NBA players didn't criticize Kelvin Cato's contract and call him out on it. Dude averaged slightly better than 3 pts 3 boards a game and we gave him a six-year, $42,000,000 contract extension. That was in 1999!!!

I totally agree with you. Melo is a jealous punk. After Linsanity took off, he tried to take credit for getting D'Antoni to play him. But that was a total hoax and if Melo were a real man, he wouldn't have tried to take credit for it. He's a selfish player and will never win a ring.

"On Monday, D’Antoni was asked about the story and it was obvious that it was the first he had heard about it. He told reporters he didn’t remember the conversation. It’s safe to assume he would remember it if it actually happened."

Because Lin came out of Harvard, he played against a lower level of competition for most of the games in his college career. Then he played in the D-League. So essentially the D-League for him was like stepping up into a powerhouse college team. He did very well in the D-League. Then he got called up to the Knicks and lit it up for 25-35 games. He's pretty much an unknown commodity, but has shown flashes of brilliance, not unlike many of the highly touted kids that come out of college powerhouses. Plenty of college players get taken in the Top 5 of the draft and get huge deals, but they are just as unknown as Jeremy Lin if not more so. So Jeremy Lin got a deal similar to what a top draft pick might get. I don't see the problem with it.

Race is a factor of course. If he weren't Asian, he would've been recruited out of high school. On the flip side, because of the lack of Asians in the NBA, he's the only Asian dude out in the league (Yi doesn't count). That makes his price go way up since his team would get most of the Asian sponsorships. Low supply and high demand.

And, boohoo. I don't get why JR Smith and Dolan are all butthurt about the market.
--JR Smith didn't play the market and got way lower than he's worth. That's his own fault for not working the market--but also for screwing his value up with all of his antics--dude was fined $1million by his Chinese team for multiple incidents. That's just stupid.
--Dolan and Grunwald let Lin's value get set by the market and said they would match all offers. The market set it high. And now they're screwed. No matter what happens with Lin's contract, it was a win-win. If Lin get's re-signed, it takes the Knicks off the free agent market for the next three years AND every team get's an extra $1million in luxury tax compensation in year three. If Lin signs with the Rockets, we get a PG with good upside at market value ($8M per), which is going to be offset a bit by the extra revenue from marketing. Grunwald just got played by Morey.

People forget most people white/black/latino dont have any problem with Jeremy Lin.. Its his fans that are awful, they blame every other player on the Knicks except Lin, and are usually racist with some of their responses. They take it WAY too far a lot of the time

Its kinda what ruined boxing for a lot people, the Pacqauio only fans. Are kind of the same way when they were being racist againist Cotto, Marquez, and Mosley during the events leading up to the fights.

Me personally i like Lin, but i was hoping we kept Gogi. Lin is a good dude, but his fans take it too far, and thats what im getting from most Knick Fans who dont want him back

I'm a Lin fan and go to their boards regularly. It is quite myopic.

Houston is some small village and the Rockets are some Mickey Mouse organization. They think that Lin's Asian endorsements will disappear if he doesn't play in NY.

They actually think they are right up there with Miami and the reason they lost was because Lin and Shumpert didn't play ...

Oh - and Carmelo is a god to some of them. Think of the TMac only fans or Yao only fans but much much worse.

God I hoped the Nets would get Dwight just to piss them off. I hope you guys get him now=)

Getting Lin could totally help the Rox sign Dwight to an extension. Learn a few phrases in Mandarin and he would become huge in China.

Far too often are Asians discriminated against yet there is no Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson to yell foul play for Asian Americans in general. Jeremy Lin is a classy and smart person so for some hooligans to put him down on making more money then them is very disturbing. Did Melo and JR get the knicks into the playoffs last year? Umm no. Linsanity did. And despite his unproven skills in the NBA he was the missing puzzle piece that allowed the winning streak the Knicks had last season. I sense that Melo is threatened by Lin's popularity and JR is hating because he's not making dizzly squat compared to Lin's contract. Even is JR is better than Lin will he generate the same amount of revenue for the Knicks? I highly doubt it.

Lin, is not worth the contract... no player that has only started in 25 games is worth that kind of increase...

I don't care if he's black, white, green, brown or polka dot....

That contract is ridicules... the same as Kelvin Cato and Shannon Anderson...

I think this contract is much much more reasonable than Cato or Anderson; he will bring fans to the stadium and sell jerseys. NBA is a business after all.

LOL...So you would be fine if someone does your job and isn't as good at it as you but is getting paid because he is a different race. If Jeremy Lin were black he would be Raymond Felton with the great run on the Knicks..In fact Felton had a longer stint of great play. Damn those whiny racist african americans......Not surprise afterall I'm on a houston board.

Can't say it's racism, but players speaking out about contracts like Melo and JR Smith have done is unheard of. It would be weird if guys on another team said it, but when your own teammates do it people are really going to question it. How many guys in the history of the NBA have publicly spoken out against another players contract let alone their own teammates???

There are many black talented players who don't get drafted and who could be better than Lin. Whats the excuse for them.

It's very simple but people always want to use race...Jeremy Lin was a Mike Dantoni boy. Carmelo was one of the players who defied Dantoni and didn't let him run his plays. I'm guessing JR is loyal to Carmelo since he came to NY due to Melo. Amare is on the other side. He was a Dantoni guy. I honestly there would have been conflict in NY if Lin went back and he is smart to realize it. Melo wants the offense to run through him. Lin played team ball and wasn't going to cater to Melo. Amare just wants a point guard like Lin or Felton. But oh well..damn those black people....

When I say Houston has a large percentage of racist people  This board just proves it. Wish the rockets could move to another city already. Thank God I moved out of this back water city. Loving my life on the east coast...

Why do you even bother with people like him. Those spoilt brat african americans don't deserve to get paid. They manufacture reasons to hate Lebron even though the guy hasn't done anything but exercise his rights at free agency. The guy is just cursed to love basketball. He would be better served to watch Hockey where conflict is settled by classy non violent white gentlement
