The picks were available on draft night to hand over to Orlando but they didn't take them. So Morey drafted for THE ROCKETS.

Let them use the picks we will give them to draft the players they want. We're giving them the ability to rebuild their team by taking back their crappy contracts and giving them quality draft picks for the future, which is more than any team is willing to offer for a rental.

Not a capologist, but if what you say is true, and if there is a good chance of him staying here since no other team will have cap space, I say make a deal, but if it is unlikely, I say don't do it.

You can say that about any player in the NBA that was drafted within the last 4 years. I can guarantee you the Magic would choose the following over Morris:

    Lamb
    White
    Jones
    Patterson
    DMo
    Toronto pick
    Dallas pick
    Future Houston 1st

However, in order to return salary to the Magic, Morris will make 2 million, so his contract is needed to make it work. Sure, they can develop him...but the Rockets have many better options for developmental purposes.

I can't believe no one believed me the Terrence Jones was a SF in the NBA.

After watching all three of his summer league games and his college games for two years, he will probably back up Parson.

He needs to work on his jumpshot to finalize that spot at the three.

We have his bird rights...we can offer him way more than any other team.

Contract talks aside, throw in the possibility of Lin playing in Houston...and the marketability of playing for the Rockets skyrockets. Howard will experience how massive the Asian market really is...and with the Lin/Howard combo, I would think many other free agents would give Houston a look.

An honest question. I had heard he would be losing close to 25 million and the extra year. Why do you say 50million? I'm usually wrong when I try and understand the financial aspect of trades..just wondering.

Machado had some good passes tonight, but for the most part he's pretty out of control.

Ishmael makes those kind of passes all the time and he's more composed. Don't forget him b/c he's not playing. Ish will be perfect backing up to Lin (assuming he's on the team).

I concur. I watched Thomas Robinson in 2 games, and T-Jones has looked much better than him. T-Jones looks fundamentally solid for a rook inside the paint, rebounding, transition, defense. Needs to work on his jumper and develop a signature move. Jones has looked a little better than solid for an 18th pick.

Im also taking into account the following contract...which will escalate from this next contact he will sign. As long as he remains a Rocket or the Rockets ship him in a sign and trade, then Howard will continue to have his Bird rights and thus make more money than signing somewhere else outright. That is the reason Howard went into desperation mode to get traded to Brooklyn, because if he gets traded, then he retains his Bird rights.

So yes, we could get into a situation where Howard wants to be traded (which is more likely than him just walking away and signing with a team)...in that case, at the least, we will get something back for Howard.

I think the odds are low that we trade for Howard and he leaves after next year with the Rockets getting nothing in return.

Best odds: He resigns with Houston
Next best odds: We send him in a S&T to another team
Lowest odds: He leaves millions on the table and goes to a team that is in a similar situation as Houston.

Robinson has looked very bad so far.

Yeah it's just summerleague but then again...it's just summerleague. Most of the other top rookies have looked at least decent here, like Sullinger. Even PJ3 looked really good in the one game he's played in. I mention those two because Robinson jumped over those two guys who were projected higher than him for most of the season.

Agree. Would love to have Ish back. Hope we get to see Livingston's work, too.

Seems to be the message. Once again, Morris is taking a back seat to rookie draft picks. Yes, they're mid-round picks, and Lamb should have gone several slots higher, IMO, but Morris is really on the spot.

It's going to kill me to lose any of our 3 rookies.

If you struggle in the summer league, then I think there is an overwhelming chance that you'll struggle in the NBA. Usually, its players that kick ass in the summer league, only to come back down to earth when the season starts. Very rare to have a "stud" player come out and struggle against other rookies and projects...only to demonstrate star power in the NBA. Ive watched a couple games of his and I think he's headed straight to the "bust" line.

I agree with most of this, except the Lin part. Lin is not a draw for any All-Star... unless Yao grows a new foot and unretires.

Lin might not be a draw...but Chinese endorsements, in the millions, will be a draw. Its extra money in the pockets of the players that team up with Lin...assuming Lin continues to play at a high level.

    Agreed.

Summerleague is a step up from college competition simply because it's still the best from college...but it's still obviously several steps down from NBA. Not looking good for Robinson who looked invincible out there the two games I've seen him.

Also though I think when summerleague it's more about consistently. If a guy is consistently playing well then that usually translates well. Guys like Wall and Blake played pretty well in the SL.

Robinson does look like a bust though, entirely too early to say but initial impressions are not good. Again the dude looks invincible out there and many times you forget he's even playing.
